Gard, my man...here's one of the places I'd like to take you on your left coast swing. This was from the Friday night 'date night' with the Mrs. Before you ask, I had one beer in me when I remembered to take pics. Since this is pretty much 2/3 my limit, the answer is, yes, I was already in the bag.
Hirame sashimi...my personal favorite.
Maguro sashimi...
Sake maki & hamachi maki...
The lovely Mrs., and me toasting Gard with my second...
And, saving the best for last, a shot from the bathroom that had me giggling like a little schoolgirl...
At that, I handed the phone...and the car keys...to my wife, and got serious with the wasabi. Saturday morning I managed to make it to a 10am rehearsal, sans headache and even with a fair slice of my (very short) attention span intact. This is not a result I expect when in the company of Gard, but I'll have the designated driver and a free following-morning schedule on tap. |

....like I needed more incentive?
It's gonna be a bit Jerry, but it will happen! Hopefully before '09 manages to get away from us...

We could set up a little Roscoeheads GTG and have a really good time.

I hate to disagree, after having lived in Seattle, Portland, NorCal and now here in San Diego, I must say, SoCal sushi is THE best sushi to be had!
Edit:
P.S. - Sapporo is waaay better than Asahi... |

Cliff,
Now I MUST SAY that you have impeccable taste in Roscoes, too!
Take a look at this lil beauty that almost found her way home with me! If only Gard was willing to accept my bribery of sushi for lunch, I'd be a happy camper!
Mmm Mmm!

Seriously good stuff. So much so that I actually had four of these things.
411 roll. Salmon, shrimp, & avocado. Happy happy.
And, after too much Echigo, I had to pay tribute. Here's a shot from the "mictural": |

...that said, I've been hatching a plan, it involves Gelb and a certain lefty bassist (that doesn't work at Gelb)...

Why would you think those pictures would lure the Gardfather to SoCal when the below is an hour away and it is all you can eat for $10 You crazy left coaster you. You also get the 12 different types of Sushi Rolls, Blue Crab, Crawl fish, Calimari, 4 different Shrimp dishes, mussels, miniature octopus and all the standard Chinese dishes.
Gard can have all of this free if he helps me install a new hot water heater.

...and I wouldn't waste my time with getting a plate, I'd just start out by grabbing that platter of unagi, call it an appetizer...
