i got the sound last night

finally, i got that sound i've been after with the full band i'd been really close, but i was having some issues with getting my preamp gain adjusted so as not to clip my signal at higher volumes

--no soundclips at the moment, i didn't record the session, and i want to make sure i can reproduce it consistently, but here's how it laid out:

LG 3005--swamp ash body, rw board, demeter pre, bartolinis...strung with 3 wk old ss lo-riders

--> thunderfunk 420, gain set to 5, master up to 5.5, all eq set flat (timbre 1 click to the left, enhance at zero)

--> single accugroove tri112L

i boosted the highs on my bass up about 1/4-1/3 above center, and i had more fingernail on my plucking hand than usual

it all came together finally--a growly, vocal sound that really speaks when panned to the bridge pickup and fills out really sweetly when blended back with the neck

this was with my progressive/experimental rock band--twin guitars who often lay on the effects thick, so i have to choose my frequencies very carefully to provide the right support...rather than just 'cut through' i have to lay a base while still being in the mix, if that makes sense

this LG has become my favorite instrument...i think of it sometimes as having the foundation qualities of a precision with just a whole lot more sounds that can be achieved...it's really a workhorse in that i can go from the experimental rock stuff over to the thump/pop funk and brazilian jazz and pop music i'm studying with my instructor

i'm stoked

edit: i'll try to get some cool photos soon when the sun reappears!

Nice!

I'm a big fan of the Tri112L - great cabinet, and I have fond memories of my Roscoe running through it.

yeah, i agree, they sound really big--i have a pair, but i often just carry one for smaller venues and rehearsals since it's so easy to 'one-hand' it
