Just wanted to let you guys know, I'm officially a Roscoe snob and I'm spoilt .
Since the GTG I'd played nothing but my Roscoe but in a moment of reminissance I broke out the Fender Jazz last night for rehearsal. I've owned the Jazz now for 12 years but It's come to my attention that it's "missing" some things. Namely a fifth string .
I know it was from my lack of "real world experience" but I was all over the place . Wrong notes, grabbing for missing strings, reaching to "boost my mids". YIKES! It was bad.
Henry Ford (Fender) has no power when you get accustomed to driving a Ferrari (Roscoe).
Guys, I'm grateful to all of ya, and (still) enjoying every minute of being a Roscoehead.
So who else is with me? Are there any of you who find yourselves being Roscoe Snobs, or am I in an elite club?
God Bless, Ray

But I do admit I have plenty of lesser basses which I enjoy playing a lot, but when its bidness time, its all about the Roscoes, or my Fender(which I do also adore) if I "have to" have the passive sound.

We had our full gigging PA set up, to get this and that dialed in, so I REALLY got to hear how the basses were sitting in the full mix. (granted, this was still through my Aguilar rig, so it'd be a touch different now with the Eden).
I had every intention of buying the bass when I signed it out from the store.
I ended up buying the Roscoe Century 6 from Greg to go along with my 5.
So yeah, Ray, I'm spoiled too. I wanted so bad to like the Fender. But it just didn't have the sound. Compared to my Roscoe 5, it sounded thin, weak, and ball-less (and again, that was through an Aguilar DB750, which is notoriously huge sounding). This is NO knock on the new Fenders---it was a great playing bass, and sounded great in the store, and looked pretty sweet, too. But, all things/settings the same (EQ flat on both the Roscoe and the Fender) my mind was made up pretty fast.

A lot. From that perspective, it's the bass I've been wishing Fender would make for years now. The problem for me was the playability. Fretwork? Ehh. Tight neck joint? Must've been a Friday afternoon at the factory. Consistency of tension across the strings? Just not there.
All issues you never have with a Roscoe. However, at that, I can attest that Michael "LilRay" Nichols is definitely in an elite club. |

God Bless, Ray | Yep! I'm totally a Roscoe kind of guy.
The thought of playing other basses just doesn't excite me anymore. I keep my Gecko fretless for sentimental reasons but it pretty much stays in the bag (actually it's in a Roscoe gig bag ).
Glad to hear that you've been won over Ray!

Someday I would love to have a Rosoce built that weighs under 8 lbs. |

Also Ryan or Jerry: did you guys also try the Fender 50th Anniversary Jazz Bass? I love the look but for $2000.00 seems steep. Love my Modulus for recording but my new (used) LG 3006 sounds better than any bass I have owned- REAL Big fan of the Aggie pre-amp! |

However, at that, I can attest that Michael "LilRay" Nichols is definitely in an elite club. | Don't get me wrong guys, I'll always love my Fenders for many reasons But from a pure construction and playability standpoint the Roscoe can't be beat ('cept maybe by another Roscoe ) but the Cowboys Roscoe will beat a Saints Roscoe every time .
I was surprised at the difference between them once I'd spent time on the Roscoe. But the "snob" thing was tongue in cheek . Shoot I know my membership in the Roscoeheads would be promptly revoked if I were a snob. And I'm happy to be in this "elite" club Quote:

Let's just bury the hatchet for a couple months and focus on Roscoe's and other hot bass gear!
Besides, everyone knows that Tebow's going to take the Bronco's to the Superbowl and NFL title next year anyway! |

All issues you never have with a Roscoe. However, at that, I can attest that Michael "LilRay" Nichols is definitely in an elite club. | I really liked the sound of it, in the store. In fact, I loved it, in the store. But hearing it set flat in the full-band mix, and then hearing my Roscoe, my opinion of the Fender went from this to this . I have no doubt I could make it sound great with a little tweaking, especially now that I have an amp with an actual EQ on it , but I just couldn't justify buying it when it didn't blow me away right out of the box. Ane hell, maybe a simple change of strings would have completely done the trick for me, tone-wise.
The one I took out was set up very nicely, and the fret work seemed to be great. The low B, when compared to my Roscoe, just wasn't happenin', either, though.
I did like it much better than the previous Am. Deluxes I've owned/played, but I'm really glad I was able to give it a run through our PA, so I could really hear what it sounded like in a full mix.

Felt like I was cheating...but it was good.
Don't tell.
