Killer SKB on ebay- WOW

http://cgi.ebay.com/Keith-Roscoe-SKB...QQcmdZViewItem

One of my favorite Roscoes of all time, it was a TPB bass I think. The used price is pretty high, but it has just about every upgrade possible. Sextastic!

Beautiful!!!

However, I don't think he's going to get that much money for it.

Yeah, its steep for sure. But from my experience (having built a custom century sig 6 with all the trimmings) If I sold mine used, and asked anywhere near what used roscoe 6's go for, I'd lose my shirt. God forbid I had to sell mine, I stagger to think of what I'd have to sell it for just to not take a huge dive on it. Probably more than this guy is asking!

Luckily, I see that scenario nowhere in my near future!!

actually, as I look at the auction again, he's right at around 80% of list, which is the same as buying it new. That is the definition of a steep used price!

But hey, a custom bass like this, it's value is whatever its worth to the buyer. When I sold my Acacia, I asked alot of money for it, and people came down on me for that, but in the end I sold to to a gentleman who was very happy to pay that price for it. Did he get ripped off? He sure didn't think so.

either way, that accent line is just killing me

Yes, that's a wicked bass but the price is way too high. I don't care if it's only been out of the case for photos, it's used and therefore should sell for less. I think something on the order of $2400-2700 would be more appropriate, but great for the seller if he can get more.

Yeah, thats the bummer with reselling gear. Certain basses seem to retain their value extremely well, and others not so good at all. I guess its just determined by the availability of used brand X basses, combined with a "whatever its worth to the buyer" kind of thing, but it seems kind of odd that Roscoes for example have quite a low resale value. You can find smoking Roscoes for under 2k on ebay pretty regularly.

I think its a somewhat standard option that you can spec out for custom orders. When I ordered mine, I wanted to get the ash back bursted so it was dark on the edges, and put a nice piece of flame maple in between the dark ash and dark bubinga. Alas, it didn't happen, but dang it would have looked cool!

I think they might just shave down the top a little bit and not make it so thick to achieve the tone plate, or whatever that is.

I agree that the price is high. That is what TPB was selling it at when he bought it months ago, but it was only out of their shop for like a week and someone returned it.

I must have seen a bass like that somewhere online, I'll see if I can remember what it was. The signature is carved pretty deep, and I think that you could have a visible line from the front, and still have enough mass in the top to affect the tone, especially with a wood like bubinga which has a strong voice already.

BTW I really dig that bass Mo, that satin on bubinga is really sweet!

The seller has lowered the price to be somewhat more reasonable on it now.

This is one of my favorite Roscoe's ever.. I remember when it was at The Perfect Bass. If this guy would get reasonable with the price I'd buy it.. Right now, he's dreaming.

First of all i like to agree with you guys that this is a beautiful bass. The accent line is not a accent line its called a sound bridge. One continuos peice of wenge underneath the spalted maple. And the next thing i would like to know is what the heck are you guys pulling do you want me to give it away for free. This bass runs 4500 retail and i have dropped the price 5 times all the way down to 2600 in some cases. And everyone still thinks im dreaming. IT IS A ROSCOE in mint condition!!!,and im supposed to sell for a couple nickles and a jelly-bean.

Beautiful bass for sure!

Unfortunately the guys posting are very knowledgable on Roscoe's and are only stating the facts. I'd say that 90% of the used Roscoe's that I've seen sold on TB eventually sold for $2000 or less. Of course your Roscoe is one of the nicest used that I've seen. I'm sure that the wood upgrades and Nord p/u's will get you more $$$'s but $2300-2500 is much more realistic.

Of course it's your bass and you can ask what ever your want for the bass!

Good luck on the sale!

Thumbs up

The more i look the more i realize that used roscoes are just priced that low. I unfortunatly must suck it up and take the hit on this. I apologize for being uspset but i feel that keiths basses deserve more thought and value. Im willing to drop the price to 2500 plus shipping if anyone is intrested. Thanks.

I hear ya, the resale value thing is frustrating, especially on Roscoes. Ask anyone who frequents this section of TB and I think the resounding sentiment is that Roscoe's resale value should be higher, given the caliber of Keiths instruments.

My feeling is that given the extra nice-ness of your Roscoe, unless you are in a hurry to sell it, ask what you want to get for it. Hopefuly, that its exactly what someone else is looking for, cheaper than custom building, and quicker too. I don't think you need to lose your shirt on it, but I also don;'t think you'll get all your money out of it. Hopefully you aren't in a huge rush to move it though..

Either way, good luck with the sale, someone is going to get a beautiful Roscoe!!!

Hey BassfromSpace, I say stick to your guns, Man!
I agree with you, used Roscoe prices are too low,
and look how long it takes to get a new one.
You're doin' em a favor sellin' it.
I regret selling my early basses,
they'd be worth a fortune now.
I've kept all my basses since the '80 s,
and I'm gonna make a mint when I sell 'em.

It is unfortunate that they're priced so low on the used market. I sold my SKB3005 of similar pedigree 2 months ago, and felt fortunate to get $2150 for it. After shipping, PayPal, and eBay I got about $2000 from it. Pretty tough for a bass that was over $3,000 new, but it is what it is..

Great bass and good luck!

Hello guys,
I agree with everyone, I've always wondered why used Roscoe are so underpriced... I personally think it is stupid! They are great instrument worth it every penny!
