LG 3005 # 2208

My New-to-me LG 3005 arrived today. To my surprise the headstock is glued on. So, is this a repair or is that how it was done back then. The thread said 90s.

What wood is the body made from? It's painted black on the back.

I played this bass at church tonight and it kills. Between this and my SKB with big singles I'm GAS free. Well.... maybe a Roscoe fretless...

Unfortunately, that bass is from prior to when all of our records were kept on the computer here in the shop, so I can't confirm all of the specs. I have seen this bass, it used to belong to a TBer from Georgia that brought it in one day, and if my memory is correct, it has an ash back...but don't hold me to that, it's impossible to tell from the photos, unfortunately.

However, I can let you know that during the time period it was built (mid 90's), yes, the headstocks were glued on (scarf joint). This method is very stable, and will not give you any issues whatsoever, as a matter of fact, there is a school of thought that says the glue joint is STRONGER than the wood.

By the way, what's up with that avatar???

roscoeS

Yea, I moved on from Smith a while ago.
Roscoes have a couple features I like better.

1.) The high gloss finish. Its more durable and looks better. Sure Smith offers it but its an upgrade. It's stock on a Roscoe.
2) The neck! Roscoe has the best neck I've ever had my hands on. Any time I play a different bass and switch back to a Roscoe I think "Man this is awesome!"
3.) The jack, Smith uses a barrel jack. They go bad often. I had to replaced it on both the Smiths I've owned.
4.) The carved body. My Smith basses were a flat slab with rounded corners. The body felt a little block-y
5.) The price! My Black tiger was 2500 on bass gear used. My skb was $1,900 and the recent lg was $1,300. More bass for the money in my opinion.

Smiths sound great, don't get me wrong, but a Roscoe's neck trumps it. Smith tone has a quality I "jangle". It IS present in my Roscoes but to a lesser degree. And that's not necessarily a bad thing. I could not be happier!
