| | | | Lg 3005 or SKB 3005 Could someone help a Roscoe Noob. I'm considering a Roscoe bass but where I live they are rare. I played a SKB 3005 which brought me to Roscoe, but as I have saved to buy one, I have not had a chance to try an LG 3005.
So my question is (Im sure this the 7000th time on this forum, forgive me..) assuming same body woods, electronics and amp, what is difference in tone between the LG 5 and the SKB 5? I can handle the physical diffences in the body shape, but I doubt I'll get a chance to play an LG anytime soon so the tone is the big question.
Thanks for any input. |

The tonal differences between an SKB and LG are pretty minor, if noticeable at all.
If EVERY detail is identical, I'd say the SKB will sound just like it looks, slightly larger and punchier. But I don't believe the difference between the body styles is as important as the choices of wood.

| | | | Hi Gard
Thanks for the input. I would have figured with the P/U tilt on the LG, the tone would have varied more. BTW, there is a SKB for sale on ebay but the owner is not sure of the top. He thinks it is Buckeye burl. It is a very unusual but beautiful top. Since I cant link to ebay, if you have some time later, would you mind taking a look at it and tell me what kind of wood it is. (Also if I may impose a little more what you think it is worth) It is listed as Roscoe SKB-3005 so its a little hard to find.
Anyway thanks for all the help.

Serial #5033
SKB 3005
Buckeye Burl top
Swamp Ash body
Bartolini 3-band preamp
Panamanian Rosewood fingerboard (I know nothing about it, sorry)
Graphite nut
Black hardware
As for what it's worth, I can't really make much comment, the new retail for a bass like this would now be approximately $4300.

| | | Does anyone know where to find sound samples of Roscoe basses in action? I'm trying to hone in on a good wood/electronics combo. I play mainly Jazz and Blues and almost entirely fingerstyle so if anyone has any recommendations I would be much obliged.
Its a bummer that there are so few Roscoes out here in music stores to tryout. Well, I've allways wanted to visit lovely NC.... |

Dave, where do you live? Maybe I can either point you to a dealer you may not be aware of, or to some players that have the basses in your area.
