How much value could be brought out of a LG3005 that has a crack in the body? The crack is 1-1/2" long on the upper horn from the neck sadle up? the crack is 5/16" deep. What should this item be worth? Also would a crack like this effect its playing and sound? I ask b/c im interested in buying and wanted some input from the board.
also the bass is in less than mint condition has some good dings.. ...
I'm thinking $600 .. |

I'd be concerned what else on the bass may have been affected by what ever casued the crack (like was the instrument dropped on the floor, fall out of a stand, did it hit neck first, did just the upper horn take the impact....).
Based on what you've stated (crack is 1-1/2" x 5/16" deep), the crack probably won't spread (assuming that the neck is still very secure and won't put any pressure on the crack in a playing position).
I'd say if you can pick it up for $500-600 it would be worth the risk. You could always purchase it, seal the crack with eboxy and refinish it. (enjoy sanding off that rock hard finsh though; nothing made will cut through that stuff!). |

Z | I suspect that a new body would be a deal breaker. It would probably be cheaper to just look for another used Roscoe.
I suspect that the bass could be cleaned up and played as is without any major work (if you can tolerate looking at the crack). The neck to body (neck pocket) connection is so strong that you shouldn't have any problems.
Hey, I've got buddies that have been driving their trucks with cracked front windshields for years!

If you have the picture of the crack send it to Gard and get an idea of how much Roscoe would charge to fix it. If you can get the bass and repair turn key for $1000 or less, you just got a super deal. |

Replacing the body is going to end up getting you in the price range of just finding a good used bass, once you put the sale price of this one and a replacement together - more aggrivation than is necessary, IMO.

Personally I'd leave it alone. What a shame that someone would trash a Roscoe in that manner! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
