The one thing that drew me to the Roscoe, aside from the ultra-low action playability and versatility, was its tonal ability to be the "Jekyll and Hyde" in a mix. A big, pillowy P-like bottom end, and some signature warm, round, compressed growly in-your-face mids up on the fretboard for fills.
I've had this LG for a few months now, but up until last night, I haven't had a chance to hear it "out in the audience": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjRUHMhBCQ4
(Excuse the crappy playing. The video is of a teacher-student funk/r&b band I do at the high school in which I teach.)
Damn! That's exactly what the doctor ordered! A lil' bit of Funk Machine, with a dose of Smith gospel "hey, listen to me!" mids.
I am never selling this bass! |

Rig is a MarkBass LMII through an Epifani UL2-110 and 112 micro-stack.
That's a teacher/student r&b/soul band I do at the high school in which I teach photo and film/tv production. The video crew was also group of students doing a live broadcast production for my class. So it goes without saying, I love my job. |

It's hard to find students at that age not hung up on rocking out with Neil Peart chops and more interested in playing the pocket. In Toronto, we don't have as large a base of gospel-bred groove musicians as you seem to have in the US.
Makes the bass player sound a lot better too. |

I have over a dozen basses including high end Warwick, Dingwall, MTD and EBMM. I am likely going to sell a bunch of them as they just aren't getting played.
My Roscoe SKB 5er and 6er are being played on 100% of my gigs these days and as a complete gear whore that tends to play a different bass on every gig, this is an amazing thing for me.
Not just being a brown-noser, but I have owned lots of high end basses... Roscoes are the real deal and Kill in the mix. If I could get a Jazz bass slap tone out of one, I likely wouldn't own a bass other than a Roscoe.

For me it is the first Roscoe I have ever seen with this type of finish. It definitely has a wow factor of 10. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
