Makes me want to suck it up and try 35" scale

Bass Central - Bass guitars and bass amps - Roscoe Basses

Used LG3006.
Same bass used by Jimmy Haslip who is a big influence.
$3,000 is still a lot, but this looks like a sweet bass for sure. Just thought I'd share.

... and it's only 3% longer than a 34" scale. It won't kill you.

Difference between the nut and 1st fret on 34" versus 35": .056" or 1.4224 mm.

That's ALL.

Ergonomics are far more of a factor, IME.

Ive made the switch and can tell you I cant tell a bit of difference ...not sure if its Roscoe's touch or what but its very comfortable and even better when you drop a nice C or C# bomb every now and again

What they said.
You've been debating this too long.
Pull the trigger, give it 3 months and if you can't adjust to the 1.4mm, sell it.
And there are a lot of good deals to be had with little or no financial risks.
Good luck and do it already. Your missing all the fun of playing a Roscoe.

Strictly IMO/IME/My two cents/Yada Yada/YMMV....

Scale length, on it's own, is grossly overrated as a playability spec. It's worse than pixel count for cameras. The only exception as it applies to me, is an unlined fretless fingerboard. And even at that, we're not talking playability...but rather my inability to play the damn thing in-tune. Unless you're playing Chopin etudes in Fm for hours-on-end, the difference in length between a 34" and a 35" instrument should never be cause for discomfort. I can totally appreciate preference, which is an entirely different animal, but I've honestly never understood the, "I can't play that bass," argument. If you're functional on a 34" bass, you can be functional on a 35" one.

As Gard, alluded, for me it's all about overall comfort. Does the bass feel good in my hands? That almost always has nothing to do with scale length. And as important as comfort may be, it's still secondary to sound. If a bass sounds good, and encourages me to improve what I'm doing musically, I'll wear it just like women wear stupid shoes.

The beautiful thing about Roscoe instruments is that there is rarely, if ever, such compromise. Find the one that speaks to you sonically, and you'll marvel at the playability every time you strap it on for duty.

If your first girlfriend was 5' 4', would you be so terrified of going out with someone 5' 6??

Take the plunge....you'll wonder why you waited so long.

And with you North Dakotans one or two or three may not be enough.

Time to man up Steve!
You've been on the fence so long that you're starting to look like a split rail!

What's the worst that could happen if you purchase it and don't get along with it?

..... well, you trade or sale it!

Hey, that's fun!

One things for sure, you won't adjust to a 35" scale by looking at 'em!

One of my biggest concerns when ordering a Roscoe was the 35" scale thing. Gard assured me it wouldn't feel like a 35. He was absolutely right, and my concerns were unfounded.

Get it!

Steve C, get the Roscoe or you will be forced to hear me play a unlined fretless for hours!

Seriously, they are wonderful instruments and become a personal thing, at least with us 'heads they do. You won't be disappointed.

Well, I don't want to listen to unlined fretless....

Seriously, I'm close, although I'm not sure a 6 is the most logical purchase. I think a nice 24 fret 5 would get me where I need to be.

I'll tell ya as a total noob to both 5 and 6 strings AND 35" scale. Made 0% difference.

My Roscoe was my first 5, and first 35" scale. Played easier than my trusted Fenders (which I don't own anymore BTW).

.I got to horse around on Joe'e SKB 6er, and Gard's Fretless Century 6. And having never played a 6, I'm convinced that's more than accomplishable by me. I'm the guy that was scared to death to try a 5. You'll hate to know me if I order a fretless 6.

If you've got a chance at a dream bass, DON'T PASS ON IT.

Fortunately for me Roscoe made mine. And someday it'll have a companion.

Get It!

God Bless, Ray

You're all probably right. Still not sure I need the C string, but I also have trouble putting $3,000 into a bass when there are so many monetary demands with 2 kids.

Too bad life isn't easier and money more easy to come by. I played a bunch of Roscoe's last summer and the B string was amazing, as was the rest of the bass.

Well, you can still get a 5 for $2200 brand new, or a 6 for just a shade over $2400, if you keep it simple. My opinion is that the Standards play and sound as good as the Customs and Signatures - not the SAME, but equal in quality in every way.

My next bass will be a Standard.
