Miracle Bass

Dear fellow Roscoeheads,

This has been on my heart to share with you all since the incident occurred last weekend. I'll try to be brief.

We had our annual church meetings at a rented hall in downtown Tucson last weekend. Sometime Saturday night after the hall was supposedly secured and closed, My LG 3005 was taken out of the building by a would be thief or thieves.

The next morning when our deacon arrived to the facility, he was approached by a homeless man that asked him if he knew whose bass guitar he'd found laying out on the lawn the previous night. The man gave it to our deacon who returned it to the auditorium and placed it back on my guiitar stand and informed me of the situation when I showed up just before the service.

It had rained heavily Saturday night and the bass and my strap were soaked. With no time to do much more than remove the strap and finish wiping the bass, I plugged in and played the whole service without any problems.

Afterward, I removed the back cavity covers and found NO water anywhere in the electonics whatsoever. The pickups had got wet enough to have to dry the foam pieces they set on and there was some cosmetic damage to the back of the headstock but nothing major.

All I can say is thanks be to God I still have my bass. Friends, this is a seedy area of town and for that bass not to be long gone can only be attributed the tender hand of God to whom I want to publicly declare my gratitude.

Blessed be the Name of the Lord,

Doug

You are one lucky fella! Glad to hear that it's back where it belongs. You sure there wasn't a pair of smouldering boots nearby from where the thunderbolt hit?

Unreal!

I wonder if the thief got scared and left it behind or just had a change of heart and brought it back (well sort of brought it back).
Regardless, God was certainly faithful in making sure it found it's way back home!

Any scratches on the bass from the theft?

Hi Joe,

Thank you for asking.

Yes, it has some gouges in the finish just up from the nut before the tuners on both sides yet nothing noticable anywhere else. I spoke with a friend in the Midwest that worked at a guitar store for 15 years and she said she'd never seen any instrument again that was taken from their building.

Like I said, I am very thankful.

BTW- Did you get my response regarding the Bart CBs in the Glock thread? I really don't think you'll gain anything above the Nordstrands-maybe try some Big Splits if single coil tone is your thing.

Doug,
Glad to hear that it didn't get messed up too bad.
And, yes, I did read your reply on the Nord big splits. I played Sha's LG with the Nord Big singles and it was nice but I felt that it sacrificed the other great phat tones for the sake of a killer slap tone. I prefer a bass that can do it all.
I'm actually very happy with the Audere/Nord combo in my current Roscoe but all of the discussion on the Glock pre really got me thinking......I love the sound of the Demeter highs and the lows are mice and smooth but the mids always left me a bit wanting.......It just got me thinking what it might sound like.
I was also a bit confused with the comments on the noise from the audere (since mine is dead quite).

Joe,

Give that Glock a shot!

It's only about $140.00 shipped from TPB and I think you'll have fun with it. I was thinking about splitting the coils in my SKB just for grins. Of course you'll need Warwick knobs.

Lord bless,

Doug

Hi Joe,

I was wondering what Sha has for a preamp in conjunction with the Big Singles.

Doug,
I believe that he had the Bart 3-band (but he may have changed it out for the Aggie OBP-3 prior to trading it.

Hey Joe,

I have the Audere/Big Splits that I dig and really enjoy the fingerstyle tone I get but you also know how versatile the Audere is. One can't help but think the difference in that application would be huge compared to the Bart pre. I wish there was a way for you to try the Singles with an Audere.

Maybe we can get ole Gard to have some demo basses ready at the shop and some discount airline tickets as well!

Have a great week,

Doug

What a testament to Roscoe build quality!
I live in metro Phoenix and know how insanely hard it can rain in the monsoon season. You're darned lucky it didn't float away to Nogales :-)

You got it man,

It rained like a bad dog on my bass that night. Not only did I get it back, I'm playing it today!

Yes, the bass is well built but I stand firmly believing there was a higher power watching over things.

BTW- Do you know why the Bass Place up in Phoenix doesn't carry Roscoes? I put a bug in Dave's ear the last time I was there but maybe you could ask them what's up.

It would be nice to have someplace in the desert for folks to test drive a Roscoe.

All the best,

Doug

They seem to have cut back on in-store inventory of 'exotic' basses. Which I don't blame them for one bit, it's tough to have to sit on all that inventory.
That and the fact that they are doing gangbuster business via the net. So I don't see Dennis changing tactics anytime soon.
Tis truly a bummer!

I'm just glad they keep a few lefties on hand.
