"Monkey Pod" Top

Now I've heard of everything!

"Monkey Pod" wood as an option on the Roscoe website?

If I hadn't goggled it I'd have never believed it.

I thought for sure Gard made that one up! I guess not:

"Monkey pod is a tropical hardwood found in Central America and the Pacific regions. As hardwoods go it is low to medium density. From Central America it tends to be a golden color, but from Hawaii it can have beautiful streaks of reds and browns."

That's a new one for me.
Awesome looking top!

We literally JUST took an order on that top last week!

It's STUNNING in person.

Oh, and we also have the TWIN to it available as a Standard Plus top, if anyone's interested....

Is this where I make my request for a Monkey Spank top? If not, my apologies. Me and my Tourette's will just head over to the Rocket forum....

^ Yes, yes, yes!

That would make for a killer fretless Bill!

3006 CS Plus. Very high on the list for 2012 purchases!

I was born in Hawaii (my Dad was stationed there in the Navy), and my folks bought a big Monkey Pod coffee table when we lived there. It's got some thick goopy finish on it that cracked way back when, so it's been in a box and carted around the world as we moved from station to station. It ended up in the rafters of their shed at their last house, and I grabbed it when they told me the story.

Anything "Hawaii" that they had, I sort of laid claim to it since I was born there. So that's a winter project for me - strip that thing back to bare wood and put a better finish on it. I don't know if it'll look as good as this top, but I hope so!

Failing that, maybe I'll send it to Roscoe and chop it up into a bunch of bass tops. Sorry Mom & Dad!

I inherited a big wood salad bowl from my mom that is stamped "Monkey Pod Wood" on the bottom. It's very light and has nice grain...probably 50-60 years old.

I love it when a plan comes together. Or...I love the smell of monkey pod in the morning. Whichever best applies.

Ray, I'm just about positive I'm doing a monkey pod top. I'll know today how long we'll have to wait. I'm thinking 3'ish months, if previous builds can be trusted....

The question is, do we keep it a secret project, or document the build?

hmmmm
