| My 30-06's maiden voyage Friends,
I gigged 2x over the weekend with my first-ever Roscoe. And, uhhhh, did you guys know these things sound sound awfully good? :-)
The three lowest strings (B-A) pack a huge punch; the Roscoe's rep is well deserved, with a fast and focused attack and a nice long decay time. What's more, the strings outputs are nicely balanced from low B to high C. It was instant familiarity with the neck -- like I'd had it for years. With settings flat, it sounds more like my Alembic than my Warwick. (and that's a good thing -- M. Stewart)
I tried different suggestions that I read on this forum and here's what I settled on as my core settings for the nights. I'm sure none of these will be any surprise to you:
slap/pop:
boost bass & treble to about half-max
attenuate the 800Hz mid range by about .25 max
pup-selector at detent
pizzicato stuff:
boost 250Hz midrange and bass to about 0.25max
treble at detent
favor bridge pup
Signal chain:
SKB3006 > BBE BMax preamp (w/ EH Qtron in loop) > QSC PLX1602 > Avatar B210
The BMax preamp's EQ was set up with a very mild "smile" (slightly boosted bass & treble, slightly attenuated 800-1,000 Hz band). It's compression and time-alignment process were both about 12:00 (per BBE's recommendation).
One note of caution: The SKB's output drove my Qtron crazy. I had to bring the Qtron's gain down re: Warwick Thumb settings.
SKB3006: Swamp ash body, spalted purpleheart neck, Bartolini PUPs w/ 3way EQ, Dean Markley SR2000 strings (I think).
