| | | | My first post. My first Roscoe bass. Greetings TalkBassers and Roscoe fans. This is my first post at TalkBass, made on the occasion of me acquiring my first Roscoe bass.
Though I probably won't post much at the site in general, I wanted to thank you all at the Roscoe Basses forum. Doubtless I'm not the first to say this, but it was largely thanks to your posts here that I gained an appreciation of Roscoe basses and a sense of their character, even though I had never seen one in person.
With the insight I gained from reading this forum, I was able to find my first Roscoe bass online (and my second one, too, but I'll post about that later.) And it was an unqualified success. So again, I thank you.
Here is a description of my Roscoe: 2006 Roscoe Guitars LG-3005 fretless, no. 5309
My inquiry to Roscoe Guitars about this bass was well answered by Gard (thank you, Gard!) Among other things, he confirmed my guess that this LG-3005 was probably the only bass with a wenge body top that Roscoe had ever made. As I said to Gard, I feel an extra-special responsibility for this bass, because of the uniqueness of its wenge top.
After a lifetime of music making, culminating in playing professionally, I dropped it cold 12 years ago. It's been 7 years since a brief relapse during that time, so my return to it now (finally free of bitterness) means I have a lot of catching up to do. Off to the woodshed...
Regards,
Snaxster

Welcome back to music, and congrats on owning such a terrific instrument. |

| | | | Thanks, Freddy-G! As VroomVroom kindly pointed out, there are large, detailed photos available at the link in my OP.
There are also some specs and my (entirely subjective) first impressions of the instrument.
Enjoy!

Really fits my aesthetic choices, actually. I opted for the bubinga (see avatar) because of tonal properties....but the wenge looked and sounded incredible!

I'm glad you like the look of this bass. Maybe you'll be getting some orders for wenge tops in the near future?
I would like to hear a Spanish cedar/wenge body with a wenge wedge neck and bright fretboard wood (bird's eye maple?) on a fretted Century Signature.

I really like the look of the natural Spanish Cedar body too! Great contrast to the wenge top.
Welcome back to the world bass!
You couldn't have chosen a better bass to enter this time around! |

| | | Hello, JOME77. I've seen evidence of your prodigious, impressive, ever-changing Roscoe collection, here at the forum. Thanks for your good wishes! And good luck with your new Roscoe in progress.
Actually, for my re-entry bass, this Roscoe was edged out by about two weeks by a new Fender American Standard J Bass.

One thing that you'll learn about some of the more infected Roscoeheads....we can't afford to own all of the Roscoe's out there at once so we attempt to own all of them at least once!
Probably a good idea to start where you and most of us probably started off, with a Fender.
That way you could really appreciate the Roscoe! |

In-between the Standel and the Roscoe were many basses: custom Spector NS-2 circa '83, '73 Rick 4001, '73 and '69 P Basses, two Rippers, Wal, 3 Pensa-Suhrs, 4 pre-Gibson Tobias (stock 4-string Basic, custom 5-string lined fretless Basic, custom 6-string Classic, custom 6-string wenge/lacewood Signature), Alembic 5-string Epic and 5-string Orion, and who knows what else. Of them all, I truly regret giving up the '73 Rick, the Wal, the '69 P Bass, and the 5-string fretless Tobias Basic. Sigh...
I understand the madness!
