My First Roscoe

Well I have finally put aside enough cash to say that I will be placing an order for my first roscoe within a few weeks. So I thought I would follow suit with everyone else in this forum and see what people think of my proposed specs.
Most of the stuff I play is either contemp. christian, rock, or jazz, so my main concern is versatility (It's not uncommon for us to go from a jazz standard right into a fairly heavy rock tune at one of the churches i play at).
I'm pretty sure what I am looking for is a big focused low end that's really punchy with some nice midrange growl and very opens highs when needed. Again I'm hoping to have the ability to smooth things out with the preamp when needed.

So here are my proposed specs:

LG3005
Swamp ash body
Myrtle Burl top
Wenge wedge neck
Wenge fingerboard
Diamondwood nut
Bart PUs
Audere pre

Any thoughts you guys can share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That's a lot of wenge!! It'll be heavy...maybe neck dive? I've seen the wenge/maple/wenge combo - that' could lighten it up a little and keep the wenge fingerboard.

Or, maybe keep the w/w/w neck and go for a cocobolo fingerboard for a little more mids.

Bart pickups will scoop your mids, so you might want to consider Nordstrand pickups, especially if you're going with an Audere. I've heard nothing but great things about that combination.

MCBass,

You are correct on the wenge/maple/wenge combo. I have an skb body with this neck combo, and I will say that the openness of the swamp ash body in conjunction with the wenge wedge neck, and wenge fretboard are great.

I still get HUGE low end, but with a great clarity. I would definantly talk to Gard about the LG body with that neck combo, and I would definantly consider the Nordy pickups.

I love mine. I have an LG body with the Bart/Bart combo, that I also love, but the bart pickups are definantly a darker sound than what you describe.

Good luck
