My New Roscoe SKB 3005 #5316

OK, I posted a while back that I had this bass on hold at Bass and Beyond. Well, I have know had it a month and thought I would post my thoughts. I must tell you that I bought this bass never having seen or played a Roscoe in person. That's a lot of faith in you other Roscoe heads here at TB First of all I fell in love with the buckeye burl online, so I searched for awhile to to find a used one, but no luck. Then I found this one at Bass and Beyond. Had to have it and Juan and Jim at Bass and Beyond made it happen. They were great and held it while I liquidated some other gear. Thanks! Ok sorry for the long intro.

Out of the case very impressed by the awesome quality and superb finish. For me the gold sets this top off. Playability was great and no adjustments needed (except my skills). The barts sound fantastic. I have played it thru my rig in the picts and direct at church. Sound awesome with both and the low b is . I can get a wide range of tones. I also love the vera fingerboard and looks great with the top. Since this was not a custom job, the only thing I would consider changing with a custom job would be going with 21 frets (if this is even an option). Anyway I love it and already gassing for more Roscoes. Thanks Keith. Hey Gard any info on this like progress pics or when it was completed would be appreciated.

Congrats Saluki! I did the same thing as you about 4 years ago...bought a Roscoe fretless on the recommendation of another bassist. I never looked back. Great basses.

I assume you have the Bart preamp...and it looks like a pau ferro fingerboard, yes?

Saluki -

Congrats on the bass, that was definitely a good one.

I've attached the only in-progress shot of the bass that I have, from just after the first coat of clear was sprayed on the body.

We only do 24 fret basses, so a 21 fret "custom" is not something we can make happen, sorry.

John, no, that isn't Pau Ferro, as Saluki said in his first post, the fingerboard is Vera, it's kinda green....

Doh! Missed that one!

What kind of tone does that fingerboard yield Gard? Is it similar to more common woods?

I love that buckeye top and the fingerboard matches it very nicely (though like Basso, I'm curious about it's sound).

Enjoy that bass!

I also meant to comment on the string spacing. I love the spacing at the pickups, but it does taper quite a bit at the nut. It will just take a little time to get used (as with any new bass). I am not complaining at all. Probably makes the 35" scale a little easier to handle. This bass is great.

Gard- Thanks for the pic! Do you know about when it was completed?

Jeff & John, vera sounds somewhat like maple, it's a dry, hard wood.

Saluki, I can't give you a definite date, as I don't have that recorded in my records (we now have a shipping log, but didn't when that was shipped). I would say it was shipped in late 2006, October or November.

Wow, I really like the way the fingerboard matches perfect to that bass. The gold hardware really adds a regal look to an already gorgous bass!!!

Congratulations Saluki. That is such a good looking bass. One day I'd love to own a similar 6 string Roscoe.

Saluki,

You should get rid of that bass immediatly! I would be glad to help you with that too.

Congrats on a very unique bass, may you have lots of funky fun with it, and welcome to the Roscoe heads.

that's a truly stunning looking bass.

What colour is envy?

Enjoy it... After a Roscoe, everything is just a bass.

Scoop.

Wow -

That's NICE!!!! Indeed, the gold does make it. (Green and gold...the money bass.....)

BTW: Note to Gard - yes, football season has begun....guess you saw what happened last night......(being in the Pittsburgh area does have some advantages since we have no specialty bass shops....)

T.B., naw, that wasn't football season, that was the beginning of scrimmage season. I wouldn't get too excited for you or too worried for me after that, the Saints didn't put their big guns on the field for long (Duce didn't even suit up), and the defense is still feeling it's way.

Y'all should be happy not to have the Saints on your regular season schedule this year, because they won't fold in the 2nd half this time.

Gard,

In one of the Roscoe Screen savers there is a buckeye burl that looks almost like mine. Just curious if you can confirm. The pics go to fast for me to really analyze it.
