...oh yeah, we got booked back at the same venue we were at this weekend for the 27th-28th - apparantly, they had someone cancel on them and since we were there, the owner just asked us to do it. So, baseball will need to be changed from the 27th....what you got happening on the 14th? (Any TBer's in the area, wanna hit a baseball game on the 14th, just let me know! Sorta a "mini-TB/Roscoe GTG"!!! )
I really dug how these turned out guys, particularly the walnut backed one, just great sounding stuff!

| | | | The club PA is quite good with a very good monitor mix. Nice light display as well but there is some buzz from the added florescent lights that wasn't there before. The 14th is bad, I'll be out of town on vacation.
I did play the fretless and it sounds great. Very round with both pups on and very burpy with the bridge. The walnut backed fretted has an incredible burp to the bridge pup tone and overall sounds killer. The playability is exactly what I wanted. |

Is that a pau ferro FB on your fretted?
How would you describe the sound of the walnut bass?
How how you describe the contribution of the redwood to the tone of the fretless?
I'm asking because I'm starting a new Roscoe build, and by several suggestions I have decided to go with walnut for the body. For the top, I'm still debating either redwood or walnut...
For FB, I really like the feel and attack of ebony, but don't want to deal with stability issues in the future. How about your pau ferro board?
Thanks in advance and congratulations on those two gorgeous instruments!
Diego

| | | | Diego, the fingerboard is mac ebony. I thought about pau ferro for it but my concern with it used with walnut the bass would be a little too dark or dull. I had a Fodera once with walnut body and a kingwood board that sounded great but could've used a little more sparkle. The ebony board adds that without becoming glassy or harsh in the treble. The tone of this bass is very growly and warm. The redwood: it's hard to say how it contributes. I'm very familiar with alder body basses and that is what I hear from this bass. It sounds a lot like my alder body Fenders. Redwood is such a soft wood, and seems to not really effect the tone of the body much, if anything maybe it adds a smoothness to the treble. Not a muted treble, just a smooth sort of acoustic like quality. But again, to my ears I hear a lot more alder in the tone. |

You did do something on each that is on my list of things to avoid though: front dots (on your fretted) and lines on the fretless. That's cool though - anything to help you get through the gig! I think it's just that the way I wear a bass I can't see either of them anyway |

Gorgeous basses, man! They both look like ebony boards, yes?
For we bassists who are memory-challenged, could you give us the recipe for each - woods, electronics, etc? See Diego, I told you the redwood would not affect the tone that much!

| | | | Certainly Basso. Fretted: walnut body, spalted maple top, mac ebony fingerboard, 34" scale, 19mm spacing, 1 7/8" at the nut, Bart CB's Aguilar 3 band with the treble control replaced with a passive tone. Same measurement specs on the fretless but diamondwood fingerboard, alder body, redwood top, Bart 3 band. |

I'm in the process of getting a Roscoe built for me and I'm also using a 5 knob layout. I see that your basses have 3 knobs close to the bridge pickup and 2 knobs towards the edge of the bass. Can you tell me which knob does what? Thanks man. And good luck again with your new babies! |
