Neat roscoe trick...

Not sure if this applies to the 18v circuit but on my older 9v roscoe with maple/maple neck, mahogany body, maple top, turning the treble and bass all the way down yields an amazing tone for recording. Not at all what I'd expect.

Could someone with the 18v circuit try this and let me know what the tone is like?

Thats alot like how I set mine up for recording, except I dont turn them down all the way. I boost the mids a bit and cut the bass about half and the treble about half. I have the 18 volt pre, so yeah, that works well for those pres too.

Why is it so benefical to have a really middy tone when recording? Sits in the mix better? Is there something bad bout recording with decent amount of bass?

It's not muddy at all set the way I described. Do these sound muddy?

Oh...But it doesn't sound middy either. It sounds transparent to me...

You said you are cutting the bass and treble, it is a Middy tone.

Its not really all that middy, especially if you boost the lower frequency mids (I forget what the freq is). My Roscoe inherently has lots of lows, so I almost always cut some bass anyways, but I do a little more when recording because it cleans it up and it does cut through the mix better.
