Here is the link http://cgi.ebay.com/Roscoe-LG-3000-C...3A1%7C294%3A50

1. Any chance of seeing a pic of the scratch?
2. Do you know the body wood?
#2 would be more important to me, unless the scratch is horribly deep. Good luck! |

| IMO it's certainly worth $1200. A scratch on the back of the neck could probably be buffed out and you can put a 3-band pre in for $75-200 depending on how well you solder and whether you buy used or new.
You might ask for some more pic's (if you haven't already) just to verify overall condition. |

Not a negative, just something to consider. Playing basses of different scales bugs some bassists while others adjust just fine, and I don't know which group you fall into.
It'd also be good to determine the body wood as that will determine, to a large extent, its tone characteristics. The Roscoe website has some good descriptions of the tone characteristics of the various body woods.
It's a gorgeous bass in any case. Unless the scratch on the back is a gaping trench, it's a lot of bass for $1200.

I apologize in advance if you're a woodworking wizard with mad skills, but cutting a hunk out of a bass neck and filling it with another piece of wood isn't a trivial thing. Aside from the aesthetic aspects, the neck of a bass is a stressed structural member the integrity of which will be compromised by removing any material, even though you put some back. And if you goof up the neck's structural integrity you've got a $1200 doorstop, albeit a really handsome one.
I'd recommend running the idea past a good luthier before attempting it or assuming it can or should be done. You might find it's a better idea to refinish the neck or just chalk the scratch up as "character."
Look at it this way: 40-year old Fender basses with most of their finish totally gone routinely sell for $15000+ USD, and as someone who's owned a few and played a bunch of them, they aren't half the bass a Roscoe is.
Just my $.02 worth. Quote:

I have seen that bass on ebay a few times, it has been around. My main concern is the seller doesn't have any feedback. |

Otto, I can't really comment much on the bass in question, it's an early 90's build based on appearance and hardware.
The scratch on the neck could be anything from literally a scratch - which I would ignore - to a missing sliver of wood - which I would avoid.
Good luck!

otto,
I personally don't have a use for a 4 banger anymore, but if you do, get some better pic's of the bass and make an offer that you feel good about. |
