Zack,
Check out this thread. I think it'll answer most of your questions.

...things that make ya go hmm...

To save time, to qoute Gard, the prices are:

No ballpark, how about THE price (the price is the price is the price is the price on these, sorta like buying a Saturn car):

4 string $1979
5 string $2199
6 string $2425

(The price includes our single gigbag, double gigbag or hard case optional)

I wouldn't say that they are going the way of Fender and Warwick at all.

These are still 100% made in the USA, at the Roscoe shop. That's a whole lot different than outsourcing them to Korea, Indonesia, or China (nothing against foreign made basses!!), IMO.

I personally think this is a great move by Roscoe. Plus, with the fact that they are going to be made right at the Greensboro shop, you are still getting a "real" Roscoe---just a more affordable, less fancy one.

And at those price points, that makes them pretty darn tempting, to me.

Having played these at the Namm booth I think Roscoe are onto a winner. The fretless 5 killed and the fretted wasn't too shabby either!

I see where you're coming from T-Most.

Historically things like this haven't gone over real well. Most of those were imported versions though (as Ryan eludes too).

I think as long as they remain stripped down USA versions they'll fill a gap nicely but I do wonder what the used Roscoe market will do now though (since these are priced right around the going rate for a used high end Roscoe).

I guess that it'll either drive the price of a used Roscoe up or the used prices will remain low and these new versions will sell only to players who want to purchase new.

Difficult to say..........

IMO - It's a great idea by Roscoe. I think they are onto a winner.

Having sold my last fretless 3 years ago, I've been on the lookout for a quality fretless for a while. As it would not be my main instrument, I would not be willing to pay more than $2.5-3k for a bass. Used Roscoe 6 string fretlesses popping up on ebay are about as rare as an honest politician, so the new Century Standards seem ideal to me. They offer all the things that Roscoe is rightly known for at a very competitive price.

As an SKB 3006 (fretted) owner I know what to expect from Roscoe, and I'm confident that I will be ordering one soon.
