I Have a Roscoe LG 3005 Ash Body Myrtle Burl Top Wenge Wedge Neck W/ Wenge FB
I currently have The Audere Pre with Roscoe Barts and I'm not thrilled with the tone.
I'm looking to open up the highs a little bit and possibly even tame the low-mids a touch (I always seem to be fighting to cut through).
I'm looking at either the Bart CBs or the Nordstrand Fat Stacks. If I go with the Fat Stacks I will probably replace the volume with a push/pull to coil tap the PUs.
Anyone have any advice to offer? |

But if you just want to tweak the sound some (less mid range honk and more open highs and lows) the Bart CB's will get it done. I am surprised though that you can't dial out the unwanted mid freq's with the 2 bands of mid on the Audere. But, that being said, the Roscoe Bart's and Bart CB's do sound different and I've only heard the Audere pre with the Nord's and Bart CB's. |

Wish I still had this one. Of the 4 Roscoe's I've owned, it was my favorite tonally. It also had the push/pull volume coil tap which was cool. Never used it much, but it was nice to have. |

Something I always consider in tone is your strings. You might try a set that has a brighter tone- a lot of player on tb like the DRs. Pick a set that has the qualities you are looking for and it could be a simpler route to the sound you are looking for.
Just a thought. |

Yeah I'm a DR fanatic. I Typically use Hi-Beams but in my recent tone quest I tried out the MM Fat-Beams and didn't like them at all. Thinking about trying out the Lo-Riders next... |

The Delano SBC6 he-s have worked perfectly in that regard and they have the exact same size at the original Roscoe/Bart pickups.
Regards
Ludo

Ludo | What's up Shivering?
Yeah. I've heard some good things about the Delano p/u's. I've yet to hear them in any bass though. That would be another option for you to consider.
I still think that the Roscoe Demeter would solve your problems. I'm going to contact James this week about getting one built. I'd like to have one (just in case! ) . |

Things are great here thanks. My wife and I are eagerly waiting for the little treasure of life that is to come in the coming days.
So I take advantage of the present quiet time I have to play bass and play bass also, and when I've got some time, well I play bass.
I've added a JB style bass from Bacchus to my collection and well those instrument are a freaking deal for what they are.
Regards
Ludo

| | | Why not try Darkstars put in at the LG angle?
Just kidding. The CBs really gave my Madrone top, Spanish Cedar body, Ebony Fretbd, AG OPB-3 LG an airier open sound. I had two many oily woods working together and the originals didn't help. The transformation was amazing. The first was a change to Sunbeams that brought out the musical tones in there. May try D'Addarios again as they have an airy sound all there own. Some would say scooped compared to the musical mids of the Sunbeams.
Wait, what about some Darkstars put in at the LG angle?
Heard that already? Well, smart minds think alike. |

I will never sell a Roscoe with a Demeter in it, if I were to sell for some reason, the Demeter would come out. |

I really like the Audere but the Demeter is still my favorite pre in a Roscoe. My only concern is the lack of significant mid boost. James did state though that he took a different approach on the Demeter pre for Tyler basses and added more low mid's. The Roscoe Demeter added more upper mid's. IMO the lower mid's help smooth out the sound and sound more musical. That might be the way to go.
For anyone interested in the Demeter preamp, I spoke to James Demeter yesterday and if you want one he will build it up for you.
$210 shipped and ready to install (if you send him a 50K concentric pot for treble/mid; otherwise it comes in a 5 knob configuration w/mid toggle sw.). |

I definitely wouldn't mind hearing what one of the Tyler's sound like. |

| | | | tone Have Nordstrand with Audere preamp, I'm amazed at the tone, have gotten nothing but positive feedback on the sound of this bass, have used both the flat position on preamp switch and the high z with great results, couldn't be happier, even thou the original owner was not complete satisfied with tone. Might be more with the ear of the player. |
