I was playing a gig at a cool little joint with one of my other bands, and the second my foot leaves the stage, this cute little blonde grabs my hand and says "I need to talk to you".
Turns out, she's a singer-songwriter with a full length album already out, and she has some sort of professional representation in California (where she's originally from). She explained to me that she's tired of using hired guns (who really don't care to invest themselves in the music) for her live shows and wants to form a solid group of great musicians. For whatever reason, she basically insisted that I play for her, which (after hearing her stuff) I happily agreed to.
Check it out!: http://www.myspace.com/tylerguthriemusic
She's very talented, and can deliver live. I think she's actually got what it takes to make herself known, and I look forward to the exposure this gig will give me (and my Roscoes!).

You know, if I were a weaker man.... Actually, nevermind. I am weak! However, I think I'm gonna break the badness this time around (I have a seriously bad habit of getting "involved" with the females I work with).
Here's why:
1) I have a girlfriend who is quite possibly the best thing that's ever happened to me (after all, she did buy me a Roscoe).
2) Blondes aren't really my thing.
3) She'll likely be famous one day, and I'd like to keep my job.

Hey man, I'll "take one for the team" to help you keep the gig.
I'll even let you jam on the Blue Roscoe Quote:

God Bless, Ray | Ray, in order for this to work, you have to promise not to let her hear you play! I'm well aware of both the seductive powers of a blue Roscoe, and your 5-string prowess. Those things combined spell trouble for yours truly! You can have the girl or the gig, but not both!

Now I've heard it all.
First things first, I've got the same amount of "prowess" with women that I have on the 5(which ain't much), so you shouldn't have too much to worry about
Secondly I'd have NO problem being a gigolo. Sittin' at home all day in my newly acquired silk drawers thumpin away on lotsa Roscoes while you schlep gear to who knows where.
Truth is if I happened to meet Tyler, you'd probably have to introduce me as "the retarded guy" Big Brothers and Sisters stuck you with.
God Bless, Ray

God Bless, Ray | You know, Ray... I always pictured you in a silk robe with baby seal slippers. But not in a sexual way. I have zero interest in your drawers!
And yeah, I'm definitely not gonna introduce you as "the retarded guy". Cause then I'll be stuck trying to explain why the retarded guy plays better than me...
Instead, I think I'll be like, "So, this is world-renowned bassist Ray. He taught me everything I know. He's retired from the music world now, but makes a handsome living as a male companion.. Wink-wink."
That, my friends, is what you call a failsafe plan!
*sigh* The world will never know what a burden it is to have my genius...

But I don't think even you could get me hooked up with a hottie like Tyler.
As Bill says I'm cracked, but I ain't stoopid.
But feel free to attempt to do so if you wish.
God Bless, Ray

However! Even given the opportunity, I wouldn't do it. I gots me a great woman these days, and I plan on keeping her

Tell ya what... I'll send her your way once she stops insisting that I own all the gear I want.
After all, even after the generosity is gone, she's still a hottie

These two Laklands are, admittedly, to appease the
"Fender filter" in Austin. I figured since there are times when I have to go with the flow, I might as well play something I will really enjoy (I used to have an amazing JO5 and sold it.. Stupid move).
But ya know what? These things kill the American Standards, and they cost less!
(The above is my opinion, of course... But I've played and owned enough of them to know!)
Wait... Why are we talking about Laklands in the Roscoe forum?
I feel so dirty now... I think I need to take a shower... Then give my LG's some love..

Got any gigs coming up?
Ran into the Fender filter just once and it was exactly as Billie describes. Hired for a recording for a country singer and played the old Pbass. Everyone I actually play with regularly loves the Roscoes.

Bruce | Thanks Bruce!
And yes, sir! We have a couple gigs coming up. We're playing at the Lucky Lounge on the 11th at 9 (I think). It'll be a 45 minute set, and kind of a practice run for us, really. We might be able to get in 1 or 2 rehearsals before then, if all goes well (none of us have ever played with her). The other one is at Paggi House later this month, which the full band might not be able to do (the drummer and I are in another group, which is playing at Antone's on the 26th, and then a private party on the 27th). I'll keep ya posted though!
What's really cool though, is Tyler trusted me enough to choose the other players in the group.. So, I called up my favorite guitarist and drummer, and the rest is... Soon to be history?
The Fender filter hasn't been much of an issue for me either as of yet. So far, it's only happened once...
I was doing a session for a singer-songwriter I'd been working with on and off for years. I arrived at the studio, opened up the case, and without even greeting me, the engineer crossed his arms and said:
"I'm not recording that."
Hmm... Nice to meet you, too. A-hole. I was really dreading this session already. I was hired to play on this album for my fretless work - and this was the only fretless I had.
You know what, though? The engineer got his way. He didn't end up recording my Roscoe. Or anything else that day. The artist I was working for was extremely offended by the engineer's attitude, so he canceled the 30 tracking hours he had booked at the studio, AND got his deposit back.
Win one for the Roscoe!
