| | Registered User General Manager, Roscoe Guitars | | Join Date: Mar 2000 Location: Greensboro, NC, USA | | | NFL Fans - Week 8 I know there are a few of us Roscoeheads that are also big football fans, so, I've decided for that reason (and a couple of other reasons - mainly because there are apparently some in the original threads in OT that don't like me and started causing trouble...) to start putting some weekly football threads here. For those of you that aren't NFL fans, just ignore us, for those that are interested and don't know much about the game, just ask away, and I'm sure someone will be happy to help you become addicted to the best game ever invented (...ok, yeah, that's hyperbole, but hey, it's MY favorite sport! ).
So anyhow, I'll be posting a new thread each week, starting this week, with my predictions on the games, and everyone is invited to join in - even non-Roscoeheads are!
The format is simple...do it however you like - you can borrow my way, or just wing it your own. We welcome smack talk from folks, just make sure you have thick skin too, because if you go all monkey-in-a-zoo and start tossing poo, expect it to come back the other way from fans of the teams you're tossing it at. If something I say can be taken as offensive or just being a smart@$$, count on the smart@$$, I never mean anything offensive.
Warning, I bleed black and gold (not YELLOW, so don't confuse me with a Pittsburgh Steelers fan! ), and I'm firmly convinced that my New Orleans Saints are going to beat everyone in the universe, I'll tell you that every week, and probably more than once. Do your best to not take me TOO seriously, because I'm absolutely NOT that serious. Except that they will beat everyone.
It'll also help to know (for those that don't already know it ) that I cannot stand the Dall@$$ Cowgirls or the hAtlanta Foulclowns.
I'm going to go ahead and make THIS the "Week 8" thread, starting right now:
My record so far this year is 70-36, so I'm solidly above .500 with my pics.
OK, here are my picks for this week!
Denver @ Baltimore - Denver is undefeated, Baltimore isn't. Baltimore is better than their record. Denver, not sure, but we will be after this one. I'm thinking this will be a tough, close game, two very strong defenses against two moderately talented offenses. Home team has advantage Denver 21 Baltimore 24
Houston @ Buffalo - Houston is all over the map, great one week, awful the next. Buffalo, they're not all over the map - they're just not good at anytime. Houston 27 Buffalo 13
NY Giants @ Philadelphia - Two teams trying to make the case that they're "elite". Neither is really convincing anyone right now. I think the Giants are just a wee bit better. NYG 24 Philly 17
Miami @ NY Jets - Miami is 2-4 right now, but that doesn't tell the whole story, they're a pretty darn good team. The Jets are 3-3, and that's exactly what they are - average: they beat the bad teams, lose to the good ones, and fight and claw to keep up with other average teams. Miami isn't "average". Miami 31 NYJ 20
San Francisco @ Indianapolis - San Francisco is a team with a bad case of schizophrenia. Indy isn't. SF 17 Indy 34
Cleveland @ Chicago - Dumb & Dumber game. Cleveland is "Dumber". Cleveland 6 Chicago 17
Seattle @ Dallas - This pains me, but I must pick the team I think is best. Seattle 24 Dallas 27
St. Louis @ Detroit - St. Louis is that bad. Detroit isn't THAT bad. St. Louis 10 Detroit 24
Oakland @ San Diego - Oakland almost beat SD the first game of the season, SD got a very fortunate call from the zebras, and got away with a close win. Oakland will use this as a "rallying cry". It won't help. Oakland 13 Sandy Eggo 27
Jacksonville @ Tennessee - Jax got taken to overtime by St. Louis two weeks ago. Inexcusable. Tennessee got hammered completely flat against New England two weeks ago, 59-0. Inexcusable. Two inexcusable teams, but one must win...maybe. Home field, and Tennessee gets off the schnide. Jax 13 Tenn 17
Minnesota @ Green Bay - Satan's Love Slave (aka Brett FAR-VUH) got his first L last week. It won't be his last, justice for the garbage he pulled on his old team comes here. Minn 23 GB 31
Carolina @ Arizona - How bad is Carolina this year? This bad: Carolina 9 Arizona 27
MY GAME!
Atlanta @ New Orleans - Monday Night Football in the 'Dome. We've done this one before, back in 2006 for the reopening of the Superdome, same teams the whole thing. Saints dropped the Falcons like a bad habit that night. Expect more of the same - the Falcons have a very weak secondary, made weaker by the loss of their only "good" DB for the season last week, not a happy circumstance coming up against a very ticked off at himself Drew Brees and 5 of the best receivers in the NFL. Expect to see the Saints start out by forcing the Falcons defense to commit to stopping the run, then the play-action passing game will slice them to ribbons. On the other side, the Falcons have one good WR in Roddy White, and one future HOFer in Tony Gonzales, a pretty respectable QB in Matt Ryan, but their running game is in trouble - they've lost Jerious Norwood for this game, Michael Turner is not looking all that good. The Saints have the highest scoring defense in the NFL, they have intercepted more passes than anyone in the NFL, and they are tied for the best takeaway ratio. If the Saints start fast, which they've done 5 of 6 times so far this season, and the Falcons have to play from behind, this will quickly turn into a blow-out.
Count on the blow-out.
Atlanta 13 New Orleans 38

I always stay up late to watch the Superbowl live.
I'll just keep an eye on the thread without questions for now.

Against 1-5 KC!
That's like beating my old high school team, on a bad day.
You take the 2nd game against the Broncos and I'll start to take notice, right now, you just need to hope they man up against Oakland this weekend, right?

...crazy Yanks... | Hey, I've been involved with even crazier games before, like this one called rugby, nothing that could even be considerd close to a rug is involved.

Yeah, we're gonna get some of those in NOLA soon enough, one at a time, starting oh...THIS YEAR.
Welcome to the basement, Mike, good to have a Steelers contingent handy. You need to help Eric with his cover charge though...

...those guys are nuckin' futz.
One had a bumper sticker on his car:
Give blood, play rugby.
Should have taken that as a warning.
