M | I had let my subscription expire, then I got a card, 24 issues for $24 so I picked it back up. |

My right hand and neck hurt but I'm ok.
This is the short version of the story:
We were up in Sutter Creek, SE of Sacramento, with Chris "Hammer" Smith (he played harp for guys like McCartney and Michael Jackson to name a few) for a blues gig.
Sunday we'd just left and at a cross road a car cut through T-boning the van.
Chris ended up at the hospital because of a supposed injury at the lower back, but was released in the afternoon, Scott (drummer) and me came out "only" sore and beat up, but safe!!! thanks to lot of luck and belts buckled up!
So beside some soreness, we are very happy to be alive!
The whole story goes on, but let's keep it here
Back to original thread, BP has take a (too much) pop/commercial, washed direction. I know it's not easy to accomodate everybody, but it's obvious they are targeting the new generation too much IMO.

RE: BP subscriptions -- yeah, I found them to be very cheap too, but the number of articles I found interesting continued to drop, to the point where I only really went to the gear pages and not much else. Kinda' like eating dessert 3x per day. Fun at first, but in the end, no REAL nutrition. Just my .02
And yes, I will admit that I am past their target demographic!

Does anyone here really take that much notice of magazine reviews? Tom's new mag has stirred up some amazing reactions on TB! Surely it is all opinion at the end of the day and should be taken in that context, after all the guys doing the reviewing are just voicing there own opinions based on there own experiences and preferences.
I am playing this game in the UK and the first Roscoe review was a bit bizarre and greatly missed the point - I am not sure how "qualified" the reviewers really are!

Their party line is that they do not keep advertising relationships in mind, but I don't believe that. If they can be free to give us honest opinions, why do they give the same polite remarks to an F bass as they do to a $400 Ibanez?
I'm not posting this because Tom is reading, but I appreciate his magazine much more as it is more detailed, more "mature" in its targeting, and WOW tons of gear looked at!

Glad your okay. Please tell me that you didn't let the drummer drive. You know that they can't resist throwing a roll and a crash in ocasionally.
Seriously though, glad your okay, be safe.

M | Me too. Well I let it run out. They used to have interviews with unknown greats. Now they rotate the same covers and the same artists. I did find their reviews in the old days quite helpful.
General Motors failed by giving the public what it wanted. GM should be giving us what we need and telling us we want it.
BP is missing out on educating the younger bassists on folks like Ray Brown and Francois Rabbath. It became Guitar Player when for so many years it was so different.
That 5-string shootout influenced me to buy a Ken Smith BMT Elite G. I played it for a year and couldn't get my sound. I read in a BP article about some session bassists in the south that this guy turned up his bass and treble eq all the way. Voila! That bass rocked. Then I went back and read the review of the Roscoe. "P-Bass that sounds like a Steinway." I was smitten by the type not hype. Ordered one while home recovering from incredible surgery. It was everything they said and more. After a neck shim it became to me the most amazing bass I had ever played. That was before the next two LGs happened into my house. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
