| | | | No Serial Number? Hey Roscoe Experts,
I aquired my second SKB 3007
in a trade with a really cool fellow TB'er yesterday.
It's definitely an older model.
The tell-tale signs are :
Headstock joint
High gloss finish on neck
Bart 2 Band EQ
Body is not as carved around the edge,
and more curved than pointed at the jack,
with a plate holding the jack.
Some distinguishing features are :
A Thin Burl Maple Top
and Swamp Ash body,
bookmatched top and back seams lined up,
with a very thin lamination
of some other wood sandwiched in between.
The color seen in bright sunlight is Golden overall.
2 mini switches, a pre-amp bypass, and a coil tap.
Also, what appears to be an Ivory nut.
I immediately noticed there was no serial number
on the back of the headstock;
but unlike my other 7,
this headstock is shorter,
and there's really no space for a number.
So I figured the number must be inside
one of the compartments.
It's not there.
So, is it like the old Fenders, and inside the neck joint?
I'd really like to know the manufacturing history
of this instrument, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Reason: We did the trade last night, and the details are more evident in the daylight.

Now the question is, do you want to take the neck off? (I only know about mine because I saw them as they were being built) I seem to recall Gard saying in another thread that the serial number should be in the neck pocket, but don't quote me on it. Somebody who has an older Roscoe should chime in shortly. (Maybe someone with a "monkey grip" Roscoe )

Send some pictures to info@roscoeguitars.com, Keith will be able to help you out with some info. Post some pictures here as well.

| | | | Thanks for the info, guys.
Yeah, there's no way I'm taking the neck off.
It might take me a while to get around to it,
but I'll definitely take and post some pics. |

The bass has a Figured Maple top (some flame, some quilt, some burl, kinda a "kitchen sink" figure) and swamp ash body, very pretty bass. I seem to remember seeing it, did you get it from a guy in VA? If so, I may have some more info than I gave in the reply e-mail (just clicked in my mind a few moments ago). Otherwise, maple fingerboard, can't be certain on the preamp (but will be if it is the VA bass), pickups are standard Bart/Roscoe pickups.
Nice looking bass (and if it's the VA bass, nice PLAYING and sounding one too).

| | | | Thanks Gard,
I got the 7, which I've named Goldie,
in an even trade for a '97 Ken Smith BSRM 6,
with TB'er, da drive first out of Philadelphia.
Really cool guy; he actually drove down with his wife
to my home in Northern Virginia.
A dream come true for me,
since my playing is completely focused on the 7 string.
I'd been watching Goldie on both E Bay
and the the TB For Sale section,
but couldn't afford her out of pocket.
Goldie changed hands, and turned up on TalkBass
when da drive first offered her for trade.
My Ken Smith 6 had been in the case
since I got my first Roscoe 7.
The rest is history.
So, if Goldie is originally out of VA, she's back home.
Goldie does play and sound fantastic,
though the 2 Band Bart pre-amp is not as versatile
without mid control.
She has a more electric guitar sound,
whereas my Spanish Cedar 7
sounds very acoustic in comparison.
Goldies neck is like a rock.
I string my 7's E on up, with the action relatively high,
and even with the added tension
of the higher strings and action,
Goldies neck only came forward a half a millimeter.
And I discovered the truss rod was completely loose!
If anybody is wondering," why 2 7's?
I'm a soloist, and I use altered tunings.
I have 2 basic tunings, and 5 altered off them.
Without boring you with all the details why,
believe me, as far as tuning goes,
having a second 7 makes my life much easier.
Also, since all I play is the 7 now,
consider how long it would take to replace one.
Anyway, 2 Roscoe 7's, 2 different sounds,
and one very happy musician.

| | | | Thanks for your interest, Steve.
I am definitely going to share my music on the web,
but I want to do video performances.
I'll let you know when I've got it together.
