Nordy's on a Roscoe

I got a Roscoe 4 string a few weeks ago on a fellow TBr but haven't really been able to get the tone I want out of the original Barts. I have a Valenti that has big single Nordys in it, and I love them. I don't want the identical tone and sounds so I wanted to ask for suggestions from anyone who has switched out electronics in their Roscoe. Thanks so much in advance for any assistance!

Cheers!

What kind of sound are you looking to get out of your Roscoe?

If you want a more open, less compressed sound, the Bartolini CB pickup may be a good option.

However, your electronics play into it as well and with different body wood combinations, you are shooting at a moving target at best.

You might want to pick up some CBs on the used market or used Dual Coil Nordy's for that matter.

My advice would be to experiment on the cheap as much as possible.

One thing to be aware of with Nordy pickups and Roscoe basses - the string spacing, say on a stock set of Dual Coils or Fat Stacks, does not match Roscoe's string spacing. Nordstrand happily makes sets that do, and there's no shortage of them out there. Just make sure you get the right string spacing before sending $$.

Greg, do you have, or can you get the Nord Dual Coils for Roscoe's?

Yes, indeed. I just so happen to have some sets in stock. I'm out of the 5's, but I have 4's and 6's. I'll get some more 5's on order, I like to have 'em all here just in case...

I was very surprised how much more open the CB's sounded live verses the Roscoe Barts (quad coil).

I like the compressed tone of the Roscoe Barts too but the Bart CB's seem to provide more usable tones in a live setting. I've never had the chance to A/B the Bart CB's with the Nord DC's but I've owned both (several) and in my mind they are indeed similar (although on different basses.
