May the Force be with you..... | What I'd really like to do is get this POS up and running long enough to back everything up to the EHD, then OFFICE SPACE it...and get a Mac.
I'm done with this damn thing....

I'm done with this damn thing.... | Worst case scneario is that a specialist images the drive and pulls your necessary files out. Unless the hard drive is physcially damaged, you should be able to at least recover your info. That said, my laptop up and died unexpectedly last year and it sure is a huge PITA.

Obviously being on the left coast makes this a somewhat hollow offer, but still...I'm here if needed. Hopefully the guy coming to visit can get you all squared away. |

They are worth it and if you look really close on the bottom right side of the icon tray you will see the Windows logo- I run both operating systems simultaneously with the MacBook Pro.
My family and I are waiting to have "Smashing Day"! That's the day when dad brings out the sledge hammer and we get revenge on technology gone wrong!!!
Good luck |

You can't buy a Reconditioned Dell and expect to run like a champ, it was reconditioned for a reason, IT WAS BROKEN to start.
I will not touch a Dell Laptop anymore, I have had to many issues. I have found I can buy a $500 Toshiba with Win7 home, buy the Win7 Pro update code for $99 and they kick butt. Haven't had the least bit of problem out of them. They get flown all over the US and Canada.
I gave you guys a copy of Windows Small Business 2003, install it on a machine and use it for all the business files and for Email. I can probably give you guys and old server with it already installed with a tape backup.
Now quit your belly aching and get back to work!

My wife and I have been using this product for a year and a half and couldn't be happier with it.
If there is a fire, an external hard drive won't save your files. |

...and buying a nice external hard drive at lunch today... | On the up-side, barring damage to the physical disks in the drive enclosure (highly unlikely), your data is recoverable.
On the external drive, just FYI if cost is a concern - you get more bang-for-the-buck by picking up a regular internal drive (can be either full size or laptop drive) then buying a separate enclosure to put it in.

Hope your day gets better, buddy!

I'm done with this damn thing.... | Dang Gard! Getting a sissy computer isn't the answer!
Only our secretaries use Mac's ....
Just kidding! I'm becoming well aware of how much more stable the Mac's are, especially for recording software.
My son in-law tried to talk me into getting an i-Mac instead of the new ASUS quad pentium PC with Win 7 Pro.
But I did get an external hard drive for all of my music and house plan data just in case.
Hope that you get it worked out with minimal damage! |

He is coming by in a bit, we're going to dump everything into the nice shiny new 1TB external hard drive I just got this morning, reload the software and hopefully be back up and running soon...then I can give Keith his desktop back (which I will be very happy to do! ).
...boy, have I learned a lesson...

When we got our new desktop with Window7, I got an enclosure for the hard drive from the old PC which turned it into an external USB drive. I now back up everything once a month to that. |

...boy, have I learned a lesson... | Welcome to my Hell! This type of stuff is an everyday issue especially when you have remote workers in Philly, Atlanta and Charlotte. Glad it is getting worked out. You really need to upgrade that machine to Win7 Pro while the tech is in the house. I back up daily, one to external hard drive and the other to a tape drive. Takes about 12 hours to complete 300GB for both backups.

So, I'm gonna limp along for a bit, until I am ready to move up....

| Got a model #? PM Me. I've been running a Gateway for the last 7-8 years and it's getting on it's last leg.
Having said that My Pop bought a BRAND NEW spec'ed out Dell a couple years ago (running Vista) and it's already had more crap outta it than my old crappertop. Only thing I've replaced as of yet is a couple keyboards and bought an external mouse.
I need a rugged case. I break letters etc.
Whatcha got?
God Bless, Ray

God Bless, Ray | I bought 3 of these Toshiba's when they were on sale for $569 at Best Buy.
I also have 2 of these Toshiba's when they were on sale for $459
I picked up a couple Toshiba's for our clients. I can't remember the exact one but it has no Optical drive. It was the same price as some of the Netbooks but offered more memory, hard drive space and a larger screen and didn't weigh much more.
If you bang hard on any laptop I recommend using a external keyboard and mouse. The best Dell we have is a Precision M4400 with a complete docking station. It is basically a desktop in a laptop frame. It is a little big and heavy. Our offices and are two different floors so I carry it around quite a bit.
With Laptops you need to read a bunch of reviews before you buy one then look for the best price. |
