...as for the basses, see above, I'm certain we can work things out!

She don't need a gun. Trust me.

However, I think she is now cool with me ordering a new bass. So no worries, actually. I will be PMing you and Greg later today with details............(MM/J)

Geez, I didn't even see that it said 2 hours.

Has anyone had a lesson like this before - a one time thing with a big time player? Where do you begin? What can one expect? I'm curious as I've thought about it before, but have no idea what to expect.

Ok, I'm working really hard on being able to attend. I'm gonna seek out one of the madmen himself to help me prepare. Keep an eye out on my Facebook status for details

God Bless, Ray

You could scream "What the heck does this do!?!?!?!"

Then hold up your bass.

Having studied with a "bigtime" guy myself for a bit, I can relate to the FIRST lesson experience:

Where do you start? Where you are.

What do you expect? You WILL be changed.

What you do with that is your responsibility, but a guy with what Jimmy will bring to the 2 hours you spend together will see what you don't, point it out, and show you a path you didn't see before. I can tell you that I'm almost sad, because as the "host", I won't have the ability to avail myself of his presence.

I did a one-off with Anthony Wellington when he was in town to do a clinic at our store. It was pretty great. Anthony's really big on fundamentals. Do you know all the notes on the fretboard? How well do you know the major scale and all the modes? And gawd help you if you say you know some of that stuff... because he will very quickly expose the fact that you don't. So we spent our hour with him showing me the many ways that I DO NOT in fact know the major scale as well as I could.

I wouldn't expect any particular aspect of your playing to immediately skyrocket as a result of a session like this. But if you pay attention to the questions they ask and their approach to learning something specific (take something simple, but really think about all the different ways you can work on that one simple thing), it can literally change the way you look at the instrument and your approach to learning it better. Add in the sheer inspiration you'll get from them, and that brief amount of time will pay dividends going forward for a loooong time.

Try to hang on to this one, eh?

I think I'm going to splurge on the lesson thing. Jimmy is definitely a hero of mine, it seems really stupid NOT to get some time with him!

Haslip being a hero, check. I'm gonna shoot for learning to read, so that I won't be the only illiterate person there.

Minimally I'll HAVE to learn the buzz words. :hiding;

Hey now, I have had my two 5s for longer than I have owned any other basses in the past! And they are going NOWHERE. I am still regretting trading off that 6, but at least it's in good hands now. And I can have a similar one made down the road sometime (next year).

This one will be a 5 string as well.

Oh, yeah. I have no doubt if I could be there I'd spend the $175 for 2 hours of getting my butt kicked. I can only imagine how much I don't know.

I am too scared of how much I don't know. So I won't be doing that.

It's tough when you know what you are supposed to know but you don't know it. I know I know nothing and It doesn't matter that everyone knows I know nothing EXCEPT FOR WHEN I WANT TO KNOW WHAT I DON'T KNOW.

I think .....

Yeah, I'm all talk when I'm not going...
If I were there, I'm guessing I'd chicken out. I don't even know where I'd begin. I doubt I could play Brown Eyed Girl in front of him.
