The site could be new, too.

WOW. Thank you! I will be printing that out as a handy guide. On the various styles I already knew what most were but your descriptions were more detailed and there were a few I was not familiar with that I am sure are unique to Germany.

Unfortunately I won't be able to stick around to see much of the country, but the evenings should be spent enjoying the local food and drink. We are staying near Sachsenhausen, which I understand is a nice district for that.

ive got 3 bars with 50 taps each within two miles of my house so im pretty spoiled. oh yeah and the piano player in my band just opened a brewery. http://www.spokesman.com/stories/201...to-creativity/

Ranger is one of the best of their offerings, IMO. Fat Tire is a good "go-to" beer in the bars...

Jim, I have had Flat Tire and I believe I liked it. I just PM'd Gard about the casual hang Thursday night (I land tomorrow afternoon in Greensboro) and asked him to recommend a good beer store near his house and the airport. Excited to try some new brews! Wish you could make it Jim, let's try to connect in Florida this winter if the girls and I visit Jupiter. Best, Pete C.

Just let me know Pete. I'll be here.

Bill - can you get pontoons for your bike?

re: Ranger IPA - It boasted 3X the hops. Thought that was a good thing, but I'm not sure, and I'm fairly new to IPAs. Wasn't bad, but probably wouldn't get it again.

outdoor'ing is a big theme in the Pacific Northwest and now all the great 'craft beers' or 'micro brews' are finally coming in cans..! so many good beers and breweries around here and now you can take your beers [lighter crushable and obviously more safe] mountain biking, kayaking, mounting climbing to the beach in your gig bag etc.

Tried this local IPA from Vermont. Nice, smooth organic brew.

Got into one of these Saturday at a local pub/restaurant (Olde Town Draught House):

Brilliant beer. Good balance of hoppy bite and malty sweet, some tangy fruit overtones, not too much body (it was 100+ outside that day! ).

I'll be searching it out at my local beer mecca to put in the fridge....

Golden Monkey Spiced Ale

Tried this one out this weekend.....

Interesting. Very herbal/yeasty bouquet. Sort of a yeasty, hoppy, clove taste and somewhat dry. All in all, not bad, but not quite what I was expecting from it either.

Thumbs up

Hey Bro's, been in California (SF & Santa Rosa) and was fortunate to try some great beer (and lot's o' wine with wifey-poo). I am now hooked on this:

I actually tried it in Petaluma, CA where it is brewed, as well as the typical Sierra Nevada, Anchor Steam and local NoCal brews. Low and behold when I went to the package store yesterday on Cape Cod (*yes, we call them "package stores" in MA), I found a sixer of it on the shelf (not cheap). I did a taste comparison of Lagunitas IPA with Harpoon IPA and I prefer the Lag. More hoppy but really smooth.

Yum!

Pete, the Lagunitas stuff I've tried is all pretty good, even their IPA (and I'm NOT an IPA fan ), but THIS stuff is the BOMB:

Hey Gard,
Yeah, I have heard of this as well (did we enjoy some at your house with Jim the guitarist?). I really like the IPA but will try any and all of it. Too bad I didn't have more time in San Francisco, but fortunately I was picked up by Jerry and we hung Saturday afternoon @ Gelb Music in Redwood City. Ed is a great guy and he has some sweet Roscoe's!
