oh sweet mother of.....

D010 arrived in Japan today. Here's the specs:

SKB 5 Standard Plus
Mahogany body with burled redwood top
Bird's Eye Maple Board
Bartolini JJ pickups
Bart Pre

Holy mother of dog this thing is awesome! Everything a jazz should be - huge fundamental, crisp present highs, Roscoe mids....and plays like BUTTAH!

It's gonna kill me to take it apart tonight, but this is part of the plan - it's going to be a non-standard standard plus (plus).....pics later this week!

Does the extra plus mean black hardware? ...maybe gold hardware?

If Jon puts gold hardware on this bass, I will personally fly, at my own expense, to Yakota, Japan, and remove said travesty, then sit on him for making me go to the trouble of fixing his horrific mistake.

(...and I do know what it is, so I'm safe, as is Jon... )

I'm making an educated guess that it doesn't blow either.

Patience, fellas! This one needs to be done right, and photographed correctly. As a bonus, I picked up some black beauties for this - talk about tying the room together!

woot!

Well gang, I've got some photos of this new beast. And since I don't express myself about basses as well as Jerry does, let's lead with the photos....

back of the bass love....

So yeah...it's sick. Thanks to Gard for helping me make sure I ordered the correct hardware, so that I could retro fit the black onto this as soon as it got here. I think you'll all agree that it *really* sets this thing off. The Black Beauties not only sound amazing, but look slick as snot with the whole package.

There are some really amazing things about this bass. The first of which is the price. This is a Standard Plus, people - 2500 bucks or so, and you've got a bass that's made for you by the same people in the same shop that make the sig basses! I can personally compare the Standards with the Customs, and I'll tell you, in terms of quality, there's NO difference!

The other really noteable thing is the sound. Simply put, this is what a jazz should sound like. Out of the bag, I was stricken by how "fender-ish" it sounded, in all of the best ways. It sounds like that amazing vintage jazz, and it's got a big old bite of the active sound in the electronics. My LEJ is for sale, as soon as I get back to the states, maybe sooner.

And of course, the Roscoe playability. This thing is better than me, although that's not saying much. I've had more basses than I can count in my life - and many very, very good ones. I'm all Roscoe now - but I'm preaching to the choir here.

Anyway, here it is in all it's glory. Hope you enjoy it half as much as I am!
