Old OLd LG 3000 80's?

Hi folks,

Had this old roscoe bass for a year or so now, think its an LG 3000 but could be wrong. As you can see the headstock looks rather pointy which makes me think 80's but maybe not?

As far as I can tell its a mahogany body with quilt maple top, maple neck with rosewood board (brazilian according to the previous owner I think) and older bart 2 band pre. Pickups are also bart but not sure if they're the 'standard' roscoe pups.

So far I have been loving the tone of the bass for jazz gigs and playing with a mostly acoustic band as the bass has sustain for days, dark and warm lows with very polite highs and rather compressed mids.

I absolutely love the action and playability of the bass however I've started a new project which is a mix of jazz and folk with a strong funk styling and I'm finding I cant really get the fat funky fingerstyle and slap sound i'm after.

I know there has been various discussions on pre's and pickups in roscoes but anyone got any ideas for getting the sound i'm after?

Also if your about Gard, do you have any info on this bass? When it was made and if my spec is right?

Thanks all in advance.

I'm not sure to be honest although it's one of the reasons I bought this bass

Thumbs up

Very cool!

You don't see many of those around.
Gard will chime in tomorrow and I'm sure that he can provide some history on that model.

That's a very early 90's bass, from just before we started doing the carved tops.

The headstock is dead, sorry guys!

FYI, Funkplayer, be VERY CAREFUL if you go to adjusting the bridge on that, there are some locking screws that MUST be loose before you move ANYTHING. If you aren't sure, please call us here at the shop and we'll go over how it works. It's an old Gotoh bridge, and it's a fine one, but it is fidgety to work with!

Careful running across the stage with that bass! You could accidently spear your guitar player!

When used for playing at a Catholic church, that bass could be reclassified as a weapon of MASS desctruction!
