Anyone use them?
- What do use?
- Do they muffle the sound or just decrease the volume?
- What's your experience with them?

They say if it's too loud you're too old, so, I guess I'm getting old.

A few of the pick-up/subs I've being doing lately; the volume has just been brutal - I find it starts to fatigue me and everything just sounds like a wash after a while.

Anyone here got a suggestion? Besides putting an axe through a guitar players rig, or punching singers in the throat, etc....

???????????

In ears????

I don't really know, but are there single user systems available?

Least that way YOU control all volume for you. Right?

God Bless, Ray

Huh????

...I can't hear you...

(Seriously, if you can't work with players that understand volume control, invest in good plugs! I keep a good set of Heros in my gigbag, just in case....)

I use Ethymotic ER-20's. Can't be beat for the $$, 20db one size fits all - http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er20.aspx

They also offer Custom fit. You will need an audiology tech to complete these + they cost more.- http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/erme.aspx

FWIW, industrial foam, safety plugs are usually rated at 32db. That is too much for playing music.

^ Bada boom. I'm late to the party, but couldn't have said it better. These things rock. On the other end of the spectrum, for infrequent use, these are pretty good too:

Yep, the Hearos HI-FI are the ones to get if you go the Hearos route. $15-20/set...

Playing next to a Hiwatt and Orange half stacks last night, I am glad I had my earplugs. In extremely loud performances, I use industrial. As much as I would like to use my Earlove HiFis (similar to Hearos, Etymotic) my tinnitus dictates that I use a plug with maximum decibel reduction.

Something to consider... Earplugs are not just for the stage. Mow your lawn? Target shoot? Use power tools? Go to the races? All are forms of sustained or impulse noise which may contribute to hearing loss.

Having said that, I am going to pick up my GTO from the shop today. Some noise just can't be denied.

Later to the party than Jerry and +1 to bobunit's post.
I keep a pair of the Etymotics in my bass case for occasions when I need them, which fortunately isn't all that often.
Being an old guy, I tend to play in more volume controlled bands cause everyone else in the band has tinnitus too.
The thing that hurts the most is my circular saw. I never crank it up without earplugs.

I've been using the flesh toned hearos for a couple years now and they've been working well for me... 32db NRR rating... The website has the frequency curve info... They don't have a flat attenuation like the custom plugs, but I didn't think that the 25db filters were quiten enough for me... Word of advise on getting impressions done.. Do not move your jaw when your getting the molds done.... They will not fit as snug....
