Pickup height question

Hi, I'm the proud owner of a new LG 3005 (purchased from the very nice folks at Rocket Music). It's a fantastic instrument in every way - finish, sound, playability, balance.

I just noticed that the pickups (Barts) are very close to the strings. Haven't measured it, but I'd guess the distance from the bridge pickup to the G string is less than 2mm (less than the thickness of a nickel). Is that normal?

I like the bridge pickup to be 3mm from the B or E string, and between 2 and 3mm on the G side, when the string is held at the last fret/note.

In fact, I like the neck pickup to be the same.

I can't quote the standard defined by Roscoe but I adjust all of mine to .125" (1/8") from the bottom of the string to the top of the P/U WITH the strings fretted at the 24th fret.

I'm not a fan of string scratches on top of the P/U's (via slapping) and I get a nice even sound from my bass with them set that way.

+1 on 1/8"

I'm thinking about making mine even more, as certain "big notes" make me pluck hard and sometimes I get that magnetic "Schtook" sound where the string sticks to the pole monetarily.
