The guitarist to my old band said it best when he played this bass for the first time. He said, "Some musicians never get a chance to own the perfect instrument. You have a once-in-a-lifetime bass there that has 'the magic'. It's got the perfect feel, playability and sound."
I'm never changing anything on that bass. |

Thanks,
Kurt

Here's my "quick & dirty" on the three options:
Bart - fat, round, punchy, warm.
Aguilar - punchy, aggressive, strong mids, cuts well.
Audere - modern, flexible, clean, clear. |

I concur with this.

and ......... Demeter will still build up the Roscoe version. |

Pics attached of #4152. Gard, can you tell me what the woods are? Front, body and fretboard? I suspect the body is spanish cedar.

| I have an SKB-3005 with the Bart pickups and an Aggie OBP-3 preamp. Mahogany body, maple burl top and wenge fingerboard. This combination has warmth and cut with very slight compression. It sits beautifully in the mix with a midrange that just sings. This is my church bass. We play a contemporary mix. The Aggie is a bit forward but works well with this wood/pickup combination. I'm a proponent of "If it ain't broke don't fix it", but was contemplating how a Demeter pre would change up the sound on this bass? Would it provide a little more transparent sound, lose some warmth or punch. Would it be a swap worth considering? |

The Audere pre sounded good but I still missed the nice glassy highs that I remembered from my former Roscoe's with the Demeter pre.
I can honestly say that I'm very glad that I changed it out. Gained the transparency (open sound), prefer the Demeter's more musical (still growly) mids and retained the punch.
It's nice to be Able to A/B the two but unforunately no two Roscoes sound exactly alike. If you try the switch just hold on to the Aggie pre until you reach a firm decision. |

WoW, what an amazing sound.

Its been awhile but I favor the Aggie warmth/punch over the Demeters sweetness. I may play with a Demeter down the road but very satisfied right now.

I'll let Gard chime in here .......... | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
