Question about Bartolini Pick Ups

I have a question about the Bartolini Pick ups. I have a Century Signature V with Audere pre, and Nordstrand PU's. I am thinking about changing the PU's for Bartolini. My question is the Roscoe Bartolini is the same as Bartolini CB's?
does anyone has this combination of Audere pre and Roscoe Bartolini, how does it sound?

I don't know which model is the one considered the Roscoe Barts but they're not the CB's b/c the CB's are another option offered on the Roscoe's.

The Roscoe Barts are very different from CBs.

Good topic- how do they differ? My Roscoe Barts are more narrow and certainly more focused than the ones on my Modulus. Also the Roscoe's are more mid-rangey than my Moddy's soapbars. How would you folks describe the difference?
As usual, sorry for crappy iPhone pic. Just took the photo 2 minutes ago and am running off to gig!

P.S.- our band is playing the Squire in Chatham, MA if any TBers are in this neck of the woods!

Your bass has CB's, not Roscoe Barts(as do all Cent. Stds.), Roscoe Barts, have more low mids, and fatness, supposedly sound a little compressed, not as agressive as the CBs.

Hey Bro,

I trust all is well with you.

Below are some of my observations.

I've got an Aldar body SKB with Audere/Nordstrand DC's (I assume you have Dual Coil Nordy's, right?) that produces a very open or clean timbre if you will. I had Bart CBs on a fretless SKB with the Glockenklang 3-way pre which produced a very open tone as well. I tried the Bart/Roscoe Bart thang on my LG and that just didn't do it for me...way too muddy. I currently have a Demeter/Roscoe Bart combo on that same LG that I'm very happy with.

Some say that the Bart CBs are very similar to Nordstrand DC's and I'll agree they're somewhat close.

Although I have no personal experience with that exact combination, if you are looking for something noticably different, I suggest you scour the TB Accessories section for some used Roscoe Barts (P-4's I believe). That will be your easiest R&R and you should be able to find some for about $90.00 shipped.

All the very best,

Doug

Are you sure the Barts on your Century Standard are the Quad Coil Roscoe Barts? Unless I'm mistaken, they've used CB's as an option on that model.

Your right Doug,

The Bart CB's are the "only" option on the Standard Series Basses. Unless Bip's CS has been modded?

God Bless, Ray

Ray and Dark Strike, you guys are correct- the bass comes w/ CB's from the factory. I have not made any adjustments. Seeing as this is the 1st Roscoe I have owned (and they are few & far between in my parts), what are the differences? In which part of the tonal spectrum, etc.?
CD- not sure about the coils however, I know a certain bassist who fancies the Saints that would give us all the "low down" when he gets a moment.

(Doug- I see you are from Tucson, love AZ, and spent some time in Ventana Canyon last year. Will be back for conference in a couple years- Lowes Resort. I dig the desert!)

Hey Man,

The "Roscoe Barts" are the quad coils-CB's are the other Bartolini offering for the Roscoes. I like the Roscoe Barts with my Demeter pre but really think they sound like mud with the NTMB Bart pre. I don't know why Roscoe uses that as their stock electronic combination.

Maybe the boys at Bartolini have a Polaroid shot of Gard misbehaving himself at Mardi Gras or else the Bartolini margins are very "builder friendly" Nevertheless there are Roscoeheads that are much better musicians than myself that really dig that setup....go figure.

Anyway...Long live the Demeter!!!!

Tucson's a great place to be this time of year for sure...I was in Chicago 2 weeks ago and even though it was cold, that town is a gas.

Have a wonderful Sunday,

Doug

Ha, a photo of me misbehaving at Mardi Gras.

Puh-lee-zuh...EVERYONE misbehaves at Mardi Gras, it's expected, and wouldn't be any kind of "leverage" on me.

Overview:

All Standard and Standard plus basses = Bart CB's.

Otto, if you want DIFFERENT from your pickups, you want the Roscoe Barts, not the CB's. To my ears, the CB's and Nord DC's are very similar, so going DC -> CB would be no major difference. I've heard the Audere/Roscoe Bart combo several times, and really liked it a lot. A bit thicker/darker (but not overly so) than the Audere/DC, slightly more compressed sounding as well.

Hope that helps everyone, I'm going to go back to basking in the afterglow of an NFL Championship for my boys again!

Thanks for all your help, you all opinion really help. I am thinking to replace them to see how they sound. The good thing is that if I don't like them I can always change it back.
