| We average 5-6 basses a week, when everything is running smoothly. Some weeks we won't get any (or just 1 or 2) out, others we will ship 10-12 (this tends to happen on shipments to dealers overseas, as it's advantageous for shipping purposes - one bass will cost them ~$300 in shipping, shipping 6 might cost ~$1000-1200, saving them ~$100 per instrument).
For serial number counters, the serial number is also the invoice/order number, and is assigned when the bass is ordered or top is reserved. Sometimes, a dealer will hold an order for quite a while, making an "old" number pop up in the middle of a bunch of newer ones. Right now we are shipping a lot in the 5900 range, and have taken the order for 5600, but sometimes will ship a bass that is from the 5300-5400 range. We've even got one that will be going out soon from the 4700 range! (we have a bunch of older bodies that were never finished, but assigned numbers).
