Questions: Roscoe Body

Hi there,

I have these following questions:

1. Why are some Roscoe Basses (the body) have 2 pieces of wood glued together?
2. Which has a better sound???? a 2 piece body or a one piece body?
3. Does the Wood on top/fretboard wood give an effect on the sound?
4. Can I provide Roscoe my own wood (Jackfruit wood, exotic wood from Asia, jackfruit woods are used for acoustic guitars, for the body)?
5. Does Roscoe use tamarind wood for the tops???

Sorry for the stupid questions but i was just wandering because in the future, I am planning to order custom made Roscoe bass.

I love my Roscoe bass. I have the mandrone top and swamp ash body, aguilar and it sounds fantastic.

Any answer on the above questions is greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Just about every Roscoe has a body made of 2 pieces of wood. It's called "book matched" and it's done primarily because finding a single piece large enough for the entire body is more difficult (and expensive) and because in some cases it looks better (creates symmetry). It's also done for the tops for most Roscoe's.

Should be the same.
Book matched bodies don't affect the sound. Only the type of wood chosen matters.

Roscoe tops are fairly thick and do affect the tone. The tops are often used in combination with the choice of body wood to help achieve the sound that the player is looking for. (example: Spanish cedar body might have a maple top to help focus the warm/acoustic sound of Spanish cedar)

I'll let Gard answer the other two questions.

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the reply. If I can provide Roscoe 1 piece of wood for the body,
A) what will be the size?
B) How do they like to cut the wood? is it length-wise or width wise.

Cheers,
Ces
