Hello Everyone,
I don't think I've posted here before (well, maybe once or twice), but I've really been enjoying my Roscoe SKB3006 lately.
The original specs are:
Quilted Maple top
Spanish Cedar Body
Wenge Fingerboard
Bart Pups/Demeter Pre
With the Bart/Demeter combo:
With the Nordstrand/Aggie combo:
I bought it used a little over a year ago, but between mostly playing 5'ers and some issues with the bass, I haven't played it much since I've owned it. I considered selling it, but I love the looks/construction and Gard's support is great.
I originally found the Demeter/Bart combo rather dark sounding, so I put in Nordstrand DC6's and an Aggie pre, which was actually darker yet. I also could not intonate the bass because unbeknownst to me, one of the previous owners moved the bridge towards the pick-ups by about 1/2 inch and shortened the intonation screws. I moved the bridge back to the original position, which seemed to improve the tone a bit, too.
It sounded great on some recent gigs with my cover band (70's rock/soul/funk)! I'm still not used to a 6'er and the 35" scale, but the SKB is more comfortable for me than my F-bass BN6 (34.5" scale), especially sitting down. I cannot believe its punchiness and how well it sits in the mix. A bass player from the audience commented on its punchiness, and this was in an echoey room. My only issue now is that the G string sounds a bit thin while slap playing, but I'll try different strings. I'm not worried about the C because I don't slap on that one...
In any case, this instrument will definitely so more gigs. I'm also considering dropping the Demeter/Bart electronics back in because despite the darkness, I recall it being quite articulate. If I can get used to the 35" scale, then it will stay with me.

I'm afraid that I'll like the Demeter so much that I'll have to own two SKB's to use both pre/pup combos.
(BTW, am I the only one that feels like the colored balls at the end of D'addario strings totally ruin the look of a high-end bass?)
