recomendation on preamps

I currently have a SKB5 with Nordstrand Pickups and Aguilar preamp, I was thinking about replacing the preamp and maybe the Nordstrand Pickups to get different sound, what would you all recommend

If you're going for a different sound, I'd say get a set of the Roscoe Barts and pair it with the Demeter.

IMO, this is the best electronics option that Roscoe has ever had.

+1 I totally agree!

I just changed my Audere out for the Roscoe (or Tyler) Demeter. It's paired with the Bart CB's but IMO the Roscoe Bart's sound good with the Demeter too.

I did purchase a new backup Roscoe Demeter so if you decide that you want to give one a try and have trouble getting one, let me know.

...and for what it's worth, most Roscoeheads agree that the Demeter pre doesn't pair very well with the Nord p/u's. I'm sure though that there would be a few Roscoe owners that would be willing to work a Nord/Bart p/u trade with you.

Good luck!

I have the Demeter/Nord DC combo and really like the tone. It has a real modern tone with somewhat scooped mids. It lends itself to a real nice slap tone.

The magnets are so strong on the DCs that it will pull my intonation out on the upper register. I have a spare set of Classics I am seriously considering installing. I had Demeter/Classics setup in an LG and it was a funk machine.

Fretless SKB5 with Bart PUPs with original Demeter pre: Love it

Fretted SKB5 with Nord PUPs and Aggie pre: Love it, but just got it and haven't had enough time to A/B the sound of the two. They are different, but I like them for what they are doing on each instrument.

I'll start playing more hopefully soon. I quit the band that was not going anywhere and may be joining an already gigging band that I've subbed for a couple of times already. Hoping this band comes through so I don't have to start with something new all over again. I'll report back on tone asap.

I've heard several Roscoeheads speak highly of the Bart pre/Nord P/U combo (Gard say's it's good). For me, it might be the only way that I would really like the Nord P/U's. I've had the Nord P/U's with the Aggie OBP-3 and the Roscoe Audere and both were just a bit too open and thin sounding for my tastes. I certainly preferred the Nord's in the solid maple body over the ash though. I might like them better in the Spanish Cedar too.

Both the Audere and Aggie are more open (or natural) sounding pre's than the Bart. The Bart might just compress the sound a bit and make me like the Nord P/U's better.

Of course it's always different strokes for different folks and you'll never really know until you try it!
