The oil finish we use is actually an oil/polyester blend and is pretty durable. I recommend a soft cotton cloth (old t-shirts, clean are good) and just whatever you use to clean your other basses.

If the finish starts to wear a bit, it's pretty easy to address as well - there are identical gel-type finishes that are available at your local hardware store or mega-mart (Lowe's, Home Depot). They're literally a wipe-on, wipe-off finish, then just buff with a clean cotton cloth and off you go finish.

Let me know if there's anything else I can help you out with!

Hey Bob!

I've had good results with oil similar to what Gard is describing. I got some from Warrior (Annointing Oil I believe they call it) and it works real nicely. As Gard describes it, it is a bit of a fairly thick gel and goes on very easily.

Something that I found that also works real well is a applying a good quality bees wax. It gives a longer lasting lustre. I spoke to Keith about it one day and he thought it would be a good idea to apply some bees wax polish 2-3 times a year.
I purchased some from a company called Myraid and it works real well. If you want it, I can look on the container when I get home and give you the web site.

I've been rubbing it on my warmoth oil finish fretless for 6-7 years now and it really has a nice even sheen to the finish now.

Hey Gard, Being a woodworker I've never come across a 'oil/polyester' finish. Is this something new or maybe it's a 'oil/polyurethane' blend that you guys use. FWIW, I've had great results with Watco Danish Oil (natural) on my oil finished basses, wipe on/wipe off = easy. Since my Century 5 Plus is only a year old, I'll probably give it a coat of WDO within the next year or so. For periodic cleaning I use low odor Mineral Spirits or Turpentine with an old t-shirt or a 'white' 3M non-woven abrasive pad which is equal, if not less abrasive than 0000 steel wool.

Gard's probably talking about polymerized tung oil.
