Roscoe lg-3000 killlled it
the session was for this artist Who I love to play for.. very "taxman" 1966/ beatles stuff,
and my Roscoe was beyond expectations, I made first take on both songs with two minor fixes, nearly perfect tracks, it recorded SO well, i know everyone says that about their bass, I've recorded with many basses and I only ever raved about my sadowsky, the LG3000 did it all,
low, low action with great sustain..
if the artist allows it, I'll post a rough mix.
this was so warm, and
..perfect. look into it if ya like smoooth sounding basses.
I did two songs w the same settings
it sounded so great, I left it and changed my attack for the second song,
we miked a b-15
and I added this old DOD overdrive for a touch of dirt.
artist was Deni Bonet,
studio was shelter sound , NYC
I was proud of my bass and myself.
a good day's work, a great instrument.

I felt like thanking Keith Roscoe personally, it made my week, of course
it helps that I practiced my parts alot,
though I can't help think that it wouldn't
have went so smoothly without it.
either I'm getting alot better or I just do alot better on the
right bass.
the smoothness.. plus the growly, modern edge..
I love my bongo live, though I'd say
that this lg-3000 is the go-to recording bass for a while.
I always get asked to bring a P or j
though this time it was my choice.
it sounded very P-ish sort of.
it made me very happy.
Roscoe made me look good..

I'm dying to get it as well
I also went direct,
the real surprise was this little yellow overdrive box
from DOD. it was a perfect effect for sustain, less clean/ more svt kinda vibe
I want one.

Great stuff! Thanks for sharing this. The bass sounds terrific - beyond terrific, actually - and the bass playing is SPOT ON. Outstanding stuff, my man. I really dig the violin playing as well. Thanks again! |

...and I really like the violin playing on the second tune! |

Keep it up and you'll be up to your eyeballs in session work. To an artist or producer, tasteful style-appropriate playing and locking in with the drummer is where it's at.

I can't really post the unfinished songs here,
they're roughs and the artist & managment left us a note not to post 'em or play 'em yet..
but it's good to hear these compliments from my peers, I've always had such a poor image of myself as a player, and these compliments are pretty important to me,
I've always envied "Jaco-esque" players who have a very jazzy touch, which was never me. I felt almost inferior as a bassist,although..the last year I've been pleased with my progress.
I've taken a few years off of touring,and really hustling..as a pro musician,that is.
I used to really take it seriously, always looking for the better gig, better tour..hustling and traveling...etc
I kind of gave it up when I got married, and have been playing in one band, mostly in the area, working 9-5 and not pursuing the music as strongly as I'd like to.
I've recently gotten my chops up to the point where I think I can really audition for some bands, maybe go back to doing some hip hop sessions..or calling up some old contacts,I'm not really ready to leave my 9-5,but for the right band or artist,I think I might, and my wife is very, very supportive,
thanx,TB'ers..
your words mean a lot to me.

I stuck them up and really shouldn't have,
they aren't finished
I don't think the unfinished, raw unmixed versions should be up..
they were finished being mixed today, The artist is really cool, for any New Yorkers, we are playing March 20th at The Living Room,Ludlow st,(Lower east side)
the band has been doing mini tours and summer festivals by the dozen,so by the time we got to the studio,we were tight, and having fun with the songs..
If u wanna check her out, she's at: http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/...f&id=552565908
u can get to her site,or facebook, alot of songs..
lightgroove, we're friends,
and it's thanks to you that I had such a successful day in the studio!..
best tip you ever gave me was buying the Roscoe..thanx,man..when the songs are done, I'll let you know if they are up anywhere..deni posts a lot of her songs.
as for the Roscoe,
I was completely hooked on my Bongo HH, it has a certain airy softness about it's highs, which I can't explain,
but I never thought I'd find a sound I liked as much or better,I have to say
the tone is rich,full..classy.sort of smooth like a Pbass, but richer and smoother, with a really natural sounding preamp, only the good factors of active electronics, none of the bad stuff.
this LG-3000 records well, it wasn't a situation where i was ordered to bring a P or J,
and I have to say..the thing that tied my whole sound together was this cheap, yellow DOD overdrive stompbox too, it sounds like a twenty ton SVT,just really..good.
I was lucky,my producer is Paul Beven, who is Hall & Oats soundman,
..he does sound for Boston Pops, various symphonies etc..
he helped to streamline the arrangements a bit.
..this fellow does my sound in NY and on the road, and he's brilliant.
I'm lucky to have him in my corner,he makes me look good whenever I play with deni, he also manages the act.
it was mixed by Juan Patino, and engineered by Steve Addabbo, definitely blessed having so many good guys working to get me a good sound.
