I have searched for this answer, but no luck. Feel free to move this thread if I'm in the wrong place. But!
What is the difference in standard ROSCOE Bartolini pups? I'm talking about the ones with 3 screw holes vs. 2 screw holes. Are either of these the Bart classics? Both versions seem to be used on late model LG's
Just something I've been wondering for awhile. Now, let's have the answer surface in the next 2 posts and then spend 40+ posts off topic.

The only pickup that you can tell anything about from the holes in it are the present version of the 6 string CB, it has FOUR holes now (the first "batch" was three holes).

The last Roscoe player we sent to "check them out" has never returned to base camp Standard Bartolini.

As Gard has said, think of the Roscoe Barts as sounding like a "P" Bass and the CBs as sounding like a "J" Bass. That is the best way to describe the differences.
Hey Data, I have Bart Classics in my LG and Fretless if you want to hear them. |

The Roscoe Barts are built to Keith's Specs, I am not sure if there is an off-the-shelf pickup that will sound like a Roscoe. I have the Classics in mine and it still sounds like a Roscoe, just more open. I guess I could drop the highs down and get real close. |

The main difference is the coils inside. To be able to have a "perfect" humcancelling 5 strings pup, both coil for B E A and D G are the same lengh (or width). That's why the P4 shape for 5 strings bass.
This explain also why the Roscoe basses are the less noisy ones on the market.
I have installed a switch for par/sc/sr in my Roscoe and the single coil is dead silent! (something that most of the split coils can't do, to a certain point).

Ps: at least, that's my understanding after checking magnetic structure and chatting with Bill Bartolini

K

....
The only difference is the case shape and the coil structure (for custom stuff). Bartolini

M | Hey Mau,
I have some what graduated from my walker and I am using crutches about 75% of the time. The doctors tell me my leg is healing fine, though by the amount of pain I question that, lol. I will be starting physical therapy soon and the doctors are hoping I will be walking on my own pain free by December 1.
I got a cool offer last Sunday, a couple at our church are bikers. One of the people they have ministered to over the years owns a big Harley dealership. I got a call from the owner and we talked awhile. During our conversation he told me I could purchase any Harley at his dealership for his cost. It is a really nice offer, but I don't think I am going to take him up on it. |

Are the Barts in the LG models any different? Basically I'm on the hunt for a cheap used set of P2's and I stumbled across a set of LG Barts for 5 string, though I won't be using these in a Roscoe. Would I experience any qualms with string alignment or anything??
Cheers! |

Cheers! | The answer is "maybe".
The string coverage should not be an issue at all, as Clint pointed out, the magnets are "bar" type, and don't have the issues associated with pole piece type magnets and spacing, although you could have an issue with the "break" in the magnets (they are quad coils, so the bars do not run the full width of the pickup).
The other potential issue is that our 5 string pickup is in a shell that is the same size as a 6 string pickup, so it may not fit in a pre-routed pickup rout, if it was done for a 5 string Bart pickup.
