(Thanks to Gard, my wife was at a board meeting in Greensboro and Gard came by the hotel and rescused me from a day of terrible boredom). It is really cool, when the guys see your bass and remember working on it. Come to find out, this bass is one of the first to ever have the accent wood between the top and body.
A friend has a SKB3006 that the nut was made from a piece of Ivory that Keith got from Alaska. Is there any special tidbit you have learned about your Roscoe?

It was one of the NAMM 2000 Roscoe basses. I purchased it while Keith was building it and it was shipped after the show. I sold it to a local player. It's the one on the far right......
Oh yeah.....it's also one of the first (if not the first) spalted purple heart fingerboards and was photographed prior to shipment for the Roscoe website as the example of a spalted purple heart finger board and exhibition quilt maple top. I was also told that no stain was applied to the top. It just had a natural amber hue.........

Mine (#5778) and #5776 are both on Roscoe YouTube shop videos, both are Buckeye Burl, and they're both in Austin.
Just curious, Gard.. What are 5777 and 5779, other than 4-digit numbers?

This is why you will sometimes see "clusters" of similar serial numbers at one dealer, as they will place multiple orders for stock at one time, then have them spaced out a month or so apart for delivery. The serial number functions as the order number in our production system, so it is how the instrument is tracked from inception to completion, as well as being the identifying serial number out in the "real world".

People seem to think it's painted for some reason, I'm not sure why that is... it's always "Wow! Who did the artwork?"
Haha. Fools!

Go for the used amber quilt 3006. That is an awesome 6 string and it appears to be mint! IMO Roscoe has the best feeling 6 string neck out there (and that includes the MTD 635; which I think highly of). ...and the tone is unbelieveable! |

My current bass - a really nice Yamaha BB605 with Barts - has a nice small body. Maybe it's not a big deal. What about the Pau fingerboard? Seems like many are maple.... |

The pau ferro is a nice sounding hard board. I haven't had it on a Roscoe but I've had it on several other basses. It actually makes a good fretless board (although nothing IMO beats the diamondwood for fretless). |

But I think the slanted pickups look fantastic on the LG, not to mention one of the key aesthetic points of that bass. It's one of those things where you see it and go "Yup! That's a Roscoe!" In my opinion, it's very complimentary to the lines of the body, kind of gives it a "dragster" sort of stance. Mucho swagger!
Oh, and I agree 100% on Diamondwood. I don't think there's anything better out there for a fretless. And from what I hear, it's practically indestructible.
