Here is my dilemma, I love the look, the sound, the feel of my Roscoe SKB 3006, BUT I find myself playing my five string Lakland alot. SOOOOOO, I'm dreaming about a five string Roscoe.
Part of me says, "commit to the six, practice and play the bass you waited five months for. It's an AWESOME bass, quit complaining and Gas be darned!!!!"
Part of me says, "What the heck, give in to GAS, it's only a bass, trade it for a Roscoe fiver and Rock It!" This is how I talk to myself, I'm much cooler in my head.
Another part says, "Save you pennies and buy a fiver while keeping the six."
Yet another part says, "Doc is a tool."
p.s. just traded my iAmp 500 for a Thunderfunk, so far I'm totally digging it!

Been there done it and I'm still waiting on the T-Shirt (Gard!!! )
I've gone back and forth between a 3005 & 3006 4 times now.....What always brings me back is the sound and feel of the 3006. IMO the added mass of the 3006 neck adds a great deal of phatness to the overall tone.
I also just really like the feel of the 3006 neck. IMO it's just more fun to play.
I actually use the high C sparenly but when I do it's a tremendous advantage. I love it when reading music or a chart (don't have to look at the neck at all) and it's great for executing quick appeggios.
I also really like the slightly closer string spacing of the 3006 (verses the 3005). To me, it's close enough to facilitate playing with a pick and just the right amount of room for finger and slap style.
Personally I don't like going back and forth from a 5 to a 6. My next bass purchase will be a lined fretless 3006.
P.S. I with you on the Thunderfunk too! They totally rock! |

Granted the tighter spacing makes it a little harder to slap, but I do not use a lot of slap, just mostly on some Gospel and even then it is sparingly. I love this bass whether playing Rock or Christian music, it just gets it done. |

While I do like the Sadowsky for a great slap tone after being on 6 the 5 feels . . . small. And a 4 string feels like something from Fisher Price. I have to sell my RA at least but do want to hang on to the Sadowsky just in case. But I feel at home on the 6 now. I say keep the 3006 and enjoy the 5er for now. The 6 will always be there. |

Although the 6'er may feel a bit more comforable to play, it doesn't necessarily warrant me playing six strings all the time. I see it all the time, most guys purchase 6 strings just because they look or feel better but never utilize the "b" or "c" string. Why have 6 strings when your only going to use 4 or 5 of them.
All-n-all it depends on you playing style. For me contemp Gospel/smooth jazz, you would utilize a 5'er better for most of the songs. The fact of the matter is that I can do all the fancy triplets and pull offs on a 6 string also but I can never do it as great as on a 5 string because of the thinner profile. (and I have big hands). I guess what I'm trying to say is that both of them really have their advantages. Nothing sounds as good as a 6'er when your soloing and improvising!
IMHO you could really benefit from having one of each but if your not into the soloing and improvising then I say go with feels comfortable to you which is obviously the 5. By the way if your that keen on getting a Roscoe 5 then I may be interested in trading you one of my 5'ers for your 6. here are some pics.

It is really an individual thing here. I agree with Joe, the Roscoe 6 is really one of the most comfortable out there -- seemingly effortless to play.
I tried a 6-string (not a Roscoe) and found it was hurting my hand so I had to sell it. I just have to face that I am a 5-string player.
The 6-string has advantages - even if you're not playing ALL THE TIME on 6 strings, it still brings a lot to the table. If you like how your bass sounds and feels, then keep it and save up for the 5-string.

Joe, soon man, soon. Hats and t-shirts are on the "go" list for December, so they'll happen.

You have to run through it a couple of times to be able to do it, but it's become my definitive answer to someone who comes up to me and says, "Why do you need 6 strings?" Answer: "'Cuz you can't do this on a 5er," then play.
I'll try to post it as a pdf.
