Roscoe and Demeter Preamp

Hey now,

Just curious what year/time frame Roscoe started to offer the Demeter pre.. Im also curious what current or past owners think of the Demeter/ Bart pickup Combo...

Take it light

Michael -

The first time I saw a Roscoe with a Demeter in it was prior to my coming to work here, probably about '02-'03.

It's no longer offered as an option, we decided to go with the Audere in its place.

I love the Demeter, it's smooth and open-sounding. Put in some mids, roll the treble down a bit, bump up the bass, both pickups equal volume, you've got a great modern solo tone.

I'm curious, how do people like the Audere compared to the Demeter?

The Audere is very similar to the Demeter, more clear/modern sounding than the Bart or Aggie pre's.

I find the Audere to be quieter, and a bit more flexible with the 2 independant bands of midrange cut/boost and the Z-mode switch.

Hey Gard and others,

Thanks for the prompt response..I've read different reviews about the Demeter and it seems like some had a toggle and perhaps some didn't?? Maybe its a misunderstanding on my part. Can those with the Demeter be converted over to the Audere?

Thanks again
Michael

Oh by the way Ive really screwed up and will be joining you Roscoeheads very shortly.. Still trying to figure out how I can explain it to the wife ..any ideas???

The typical Demeter installation had a mini switch for the midrange Q (bandwidth), the Audere has a mini switch for the Z-mode function (changes the capacitance of the pickups), so both require a small hole be drilled and a switch installed. There would definitely be no trouble switching the Demeter to the Audere (or vice-versa).

As for the 'splain it to my wife thing...uh.......I tend to use the "Sgt. Shultz" method...."I know NUH-TING!"

LightGroove,
I love the sound of the Demeter pre in the Roscoe's.

I can't comment on the simularities of the Audere and the Demeter but even though opinions on this forum differ, I've got to believe that if Gard say they sound similar in tone then they must.....He's had many more opportunites to hear both in every imaginable combination.

Good luck converting your wife to a Roscoehead!

Just be honest with her and tell her that having a Roscoe will bring out more passion and sensitivity in your personallity which in turn will pour out into yours and her relationship!

Right Lung!!!?, that is getting off cheap, lol. I think you will be happy with a Roscoe. If you are within a couple hours drive of a Roscoe dealer, take a road trip and go play one. It will be worth the drive.

How does an Aguilar OBP-3 compare to the Demeter and Audere in a Roscoe?

Not as "modern/clean" sounding, more aggressive and "colored" (midrangy/slighly nasally - but in a GOOD way!).

Neither is "better" or "worse", just "different".

I've got the Audere in my fretless (which originally had the Demeter) and love the clean crisp tone, and really like the midrange controls; I've got the Aguilar in my fretted, and it's killer for aggressive fingerstyle (classic rock tones) and slap.

Gard's fretless is an amazing playing bass, not another one like it. I am a Demeter guy, but I have to admit his fretless bass sounds sweet. I may just have to beat him down one day and bring it home with me.

Ahh, I couldn't do that, it would be worse than stealing a man's horse and probably carry a worse punishment. Strung up by D' Addarios.

Man, you try and take my fretless, and you're gonna feel like the Cowgirls did on 12/10/06 at about 11:30 PM Eastern time....
