The song doesn't have a fretless bass in the recording but you just instinctively reach for the Roscoe fretless because you just feel in your gut that's what's the songs desperately needs.
The song starts off with just acoustic, light drums and a tasteful soft electric riff floating over the rest of the band....
You slide up to an Ab on the D string, let is swell, then to an E on the A string, let it swell, then to a B on the E string, and let it swell, riding it like the Silver surfer rides his magic flying surf board. Every movement of your left hand brings the mwah growling more intensely. Every note, falls perfectly in the space of the music, left there specifically for each of the 3 notes.
Just 3 notes, but sometimes less is really more! Sometimes, what you don't play is just as important as what you do play!
Just thought that I'd share a Roscoe fretless moment with you!
Feel free to share yours!
Brought to you by too much coffee and the pleasure of owning a Roscoe fretless! |

Its a wonderful feeling, one I really like too, is doing a slow rootsy walk, and dropping to the B string, sliding to a low note, say Db, holdin' on tight, and watching the other guys jaws distend slightly.
I always like to mention, that I very rarely played fretless, I had a few bouncing about with years, but I almost always played fretted, until last Nov. when a sans speedbump Roscoe came a knocking and a mwahhing..... Heh, I can't stop with fretless now, sounds, and feels just so good!

Come on Bro! The truth will set you free! | You got me there Joe! As I listened to you play tears welled up in my eyes as though you told me Gard ran over my dog. But Just about the time I was ready for a good sob fest you handed the bass to me.
I went from to in an instant. You saved yourself a lot of floor mopping though
Roscoe fretless' are in a class to themselves when they're in capable hands.
God Bless, Ray

Biggest lesson I ever learnd with fretless, is before you jam, make sure *the guitarist* is tuned up...

...it was at a jam night, I stopped playing about 30 seconds in, stopped both guitarists and asked them loudly if they had used the tuner by the stage before coming up, and informed them that they could play without a bassist until they did so.
I hate guitarists that won't tune before playing, under ANY circumstance. They should be drawn and quartered, then tarred and feathered, then anything that is left should be covered and gasoline and lit on fire and burned until only ashes are left. Then any fretless bassist that wishes should be allowed to micturate on said ashes.
...not that it really bothers me or anything...

So, does it really bother you when guitar players play out of tune? |

If they won't tune then I play Louie Louie in the wrong key, very badly out of time, regardless what song they play. That pretty much cures the problem, and since I'm bigger than any guitardist I know of, they fall in line pretty quickly... | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
