I'd switch to the maple fretboard to make it look better.

NO..Roscoe's don't need pickguards covering up the beautiful wood.

There has to be some wood that comes through the shop that has areas where there's an area that doesn't look good, no harm in covering that up. Gives life to an other wise useless piece.

I like the rosewood fingerboard, but will smaller Abolone inlay. Definitely got the right vibe going.

I'd like to have a photo of Standard 6 natural with a maple board to play with. I haven't been able to find one I've been looking at some Fender vintage stuff, I agree, the inlays need to be smaller.

Cool look!. If there is indeed a way to incorporate a control cover (even a faux one) I think a pickguard on a flat top would look great.

Easily done, worst case scenario, you'd use mirror pickguard for the control plate area, would look just the same as a metal plate, or close enough.
