| | Registered User | | | | | Roscoe LG3005 Going on Ebay. Hey Everyone,
I am going to post my LG3005 on Ebay tonight and I was wondering if you guys could help me. Firstly, I am the second owner so I am not really sure of the woods so I was wondering if I were to post some photos of her, could you let me know what kind wood was used to build this bass.
Secondly, I'm not really sure what to sell her for. What would be a good price that's fair for both parties. I'm not desperate to sell her so I don't want to under sell her but at the same time I want to be fair to the buyer.
Thanks,
Paul |

And the back of the body is Spanish Cedar I guess. but Like he said it's really hard to tell the fretboard. |

Paul | Hey Paul,
It looks like you have one of those really cool cases built by Modern Case Co. for Roscoe. They are wonderful form fitted cases and since the company that made them no longer exists, you might want to mention that's what make of case comes with your bass in the item description.
And yes, Gard is the master of serial number forensics so definately email him but he will probably respond to this thread sometime Monday anyway.
All the best,

(I've got a couple minutes before I have to get out and start mowing the lawn...)
The wonder of having things on a laptop at work is that I can do research for stuff like this here at home on weekends. The bad news is that this bass is from a period just before we started keeping all our records on the computer, so we won't have the original invoice on it.
Now, based on the photos, I can confirm that the top is indeed flame maple, the "standard" variety (not knocking it, it's very pretty, just not "exhibition" grade). The back appears to be spanish cedar, but it is impossible to give a 100% assurance on that (I'd give that an 85-90% assurance though), there is a slight chance it is mahogany - sometimes it is difficult to be certain from a photograph, and sometimes it's difficult in person! The fingerboard appears to be wenge, again I'm not 100% certain, as the photo is not quite close enough for me to see the grain clearly. If the wood has a lot of open pores in it, it's wenge, if not, then I'd need a closer photo to be more sure. The preamp is a Bartolini 3-band.
If I can help any further, please just e-mail me at the shop: info@roscoeguitars.com
Good luck (sorry you have to sell it )...

Didn't Keith do a LOT of ebony boards in the 90's? I was thinking it would be an ebony board, just based on how many other Roscoes from that period had ebony boards.

I'm not really sure if I'm going to sell it after all. Apparently it's my wife's favourite bass (news to me).
It's been in the case forever and now it's her favourite. I haven't played this bass in a long time but now that pick it up and mess around with it she may have a point.
I'm just afraid if I plug it in to my Markbass head, she aint going anywhere.

I've got to say, my Roscoe is my favorite bass. I'll pick it over my wife's Tobias, Sadowsky, Valenti and Ritter (and no, I'm not paid to say that...and all of those basses definitely rock (and Nino and Jens totally rock), respectively, but my Roscoe just rocks a little harder).
Seriously, if you don't have to sell your Roscoe (for whatever reason), take some time to rediscover it. There are ALOT of tones in there.
I'm ending my love fest.
Enjoy the long weekend,
-John |
