Roscoe neck enquiry

hi. I'm a noob to the forum...Also a complete noob to Roscoe basses but the research I've done thus far has me seriously considering pulling the trigger on one of these..Presently have a stingray, Warwick thumb and jazz bass....

I'm very interested in a six string SKB3006 fretless for sale here on the forum...

I'm not that great a fretless player but this thing looks so good I'm very tempted...

I'm thinking maybe it might be worth my while to buy a fretted neck direct from roscoe and that way I could swap it out when necessary...

Just not sure if the cost of the neck alone would make it cost prohibitive....I'm in Austrlalia and would have to get it made and sent here..dont think there's any Roscoe dealers here..

I understand that there's a lot of variables in the cost of a neck, types of wood etc etc,,but does anyone have some idea of what a starting price point may be???

thanks all

I'll let Gard formally answer you BUT ....

..... that questions been asked many times and by the time you made a new neck you'd be quite upside down in the instrument $$$$$$$!!!
And no, Roscoe won't fret the fretless diamondwood board. It would require slightly wider fret slots (than std) due to the denisity/hardness of the diamondwood.
You might could find a good luthier to do it though.

As one more item of interest, I've been told that on the Roscoe fretless, the bridge is located in a slightly different location in order to achieve good intonation. It might still intonate properly with frets but just a word of caution.

Hey Bsharplflat, welcome to the forum!

I was all ready to type out a lengthy reply, then I read Joe's response, and realized he'd already done it.

Sorry, but I can't recommend that course of action - the cost for a new/replacement neck is essentially equal to the cost of a used bass.

I'd suggest either holding out for a fretted SKB 3006 to arrive, or look into a new one - consider the SKB/LG/Century Standards, they're very reasonably priced, and sound fantastic...

Bsharpflat-

Most likely, your best bet for a second bass is to again check the used market. And I'll tell you right now, there's not a better person to deal with than Greg at Rocket Music. Because of the great relationships he's earned here on TB and elsewhere, there's a reasonably good flow of used Roscoes in his inventory from players trading for new custom builds and what all.

Regardless of what you buy, you wont go wrong dealing with Greg.

cool..some avenues to pursue....I figured the neck swap would probably not be an option....I could always get that six string fretless and hope to goodness that I could learn to play it well enough to give it it's due's.....or just pretend that the top and bottom string arent really there lol....
