Roscoe Necks

Can somebody tell me about the profile of Roscoe necks?

I'm looking for a thin and fast neck profile.

For comparisons, I have played/owned the following basses:

-Sadowsky 5-24: loved the thinness, but was too wide.
-MTD 535: too fat and wide.
-StingRays: very comfy, close to perfect, but I prefer 18mm spacing, instead of 17mm.
-Smith BSR: perfect neck, perfect profile and perfect thickness, super fast and comfy (but I never liked the sound).

So I'm entertaining the idea of ordering a 5-string with a very fast neck. Besides Roscoe, my only other contender is a Zon, because I hear they also have very thin necks. . .

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

The 3005 neck is at 1-3/4” the nut and 2-55/64”
at the 24th fret. I'm not sure exactly how to describe the profile but it's definitely not chunky (thick).

You really need to get your hands on a Roscoe to try it. I can't imagine that you'd be disapointed! Definitely the best playing bass out there IMO.

Hello,

Joe's right.

You need to play a Roscoe.

Check out the dealers in Florida and take a drive. That will settle all questions.

Lefty, Sim is very close to you, and you'll find that Tim there is very helpful. I believe they have a few basses in stock right now, but a phone call will confirm that (they don't have a website).

FYI, we can do custom profiles on custom orders as well, so if you play those, and they seem a bit thicker than you like, we can do them somewhat more thin.

Measurements are helpful but they don't communicate much about how *comfortable* the Roscoe necks are. They feel extremely "natural" to this player!

Thanks, all. Had no idea about Sim being a dealer. Haven't been to that store in more than 10 years. . .

Although I'm lefty, I think I can get an idea of the neck even playing righties.

Lefty, yeah, our necks are symmetrical, so a righty will still give you a solid idea of the feel of a lefty.

Tell Tim I said hey!

Hey Lefty...

I've only played a 4 stringer but can only assume they are somewhat close to the 5's in comparison. I can say without a doubt the Roscoe necks are some of the thinnest I have ever played. In addition they are a comfortable thin unlike your Pedullas and such . I've played an MTD Heir and the necks were very similar in thickness with the Roscoe feeling a little more like.... well you'll have to check and see for yourself.

Enjoy

Roscoe necks are thinner than Smith. If you play one you will be hooked. I have had 2 smiths, a bsm6m and a black tiger 5. The roscoe blows even the tiger a way. I now play skb 3005. Pure heaven! $1900 used.

Hello you mentioned your Roscoe Blows Smith away. How do you mean that? Sound wise, feel wise. Look wise? I too have a Roscoe and while it does sound great and look great I like the feel and the useable tone of my Smiths better. But you see thats just to me and not a comparison. Each bass does what it does and they do it well I think. A ken Smith bass even if it's a black tiger is still just a Ken smith bass. That Smith sound will always be there no matter what wood it is. with subtle differences in tone. I haven't played enough Roscoes to know how consistent their sound is. I'm hoping you will explain that to me. Thanks

I had a MTD 535 and a Roscoe 5, still have a sadowsky and stingray but not a Smith. The Roscoe neck is very slim. For me I would request the larger neck spacing. But I suggest calling them and getting the exact wood combinations. Because it will sound different depending on there large selection of woods. To me the neck is a little too slim. But thats me. I like the fender type necks from sadowsky and alleva coppolo. Roscoe is not like that. But I heard they have a larger neck option. But if you want slim its about the slimiset neck i ever played. I bought one used without speaking to the company first. It was all maple. Maple body, neck and birsdseye fingerboard. Very hard bass. Thought it would be good for me but wasn't. make sure you speak to them first its a must.
