Roscoe SKB3005 #5617

Guys,

I'm looking for opinions about this Roscoe Bass SKB3005

Mahogany Body
Burl Myrtle Top
Pau Ferro Fingerboard
Barts Preamp
Barts Pickups

What do you guys think about the tone will be?
I havent lay my hands to try that Roscoe Bass.
I'm looking for bass that is pretty versatile. I love fingerstyle funk and play a bit of gospel.

Your comment will be highly appreciated.

Thanks.

My bet without actually hearing it would be that the bass would have a thick, darker/mid-heavy tone.

I think it will be more of an even, but slightly compressed tone. Myrtle and maple sound very similar to me, so this is essentially the "Jimmy Haslip recipe" for sound...just looks a bit different.

Thanks Gard.

Wouw “Jimmy Haslip recipe” ?
I love Jimmy’s tone.
But I thought his Roscoe Bass specs are Spalted maple top, swamp ash body, Bolivian rosewood, and barts electronics.
Is it will be similar with mahogany, burl myrtle, pau ferro fingerboard tone?

Jimmy's primary bass is:

LG 3006
Exhibition Quilt Maple top
Mahogany body
Yellow finish
Bartolini 3-band preamp
Bartolini/Roscoe pickups
Pau Ferro fingerboard
Ivory nut
Black hardware

Thumbs up I think you're gonna love it!!!!!!!

Hey Fiero,
I have a bass with very similar specs to yours and love it. See the thread 5397 for a picture. I have the same electronics and the same woods except I have a macassar ebony fretboard, which I think is a little softer wood than yours. I play in a worship team and we do a variety of musical styles primarily pop and blues. I don't know what some of these posts mean about a compressed tone. These woods allow me to have as warm and mellow tone as I could imagine, plus I can dial in some brightness for a more aggressive sound. Fingerstyle you will get tone for days. Play hard & live hard. God bless you. BR

Question What about strings?

Firo,
Let me know about what you think you'll do in the way of strings for your bass. I'm thinking at the first string changs I'll go with D'Addario flatwounds, but have have been thinking about one of the flatwounds from Thomastic. Any thoughts?

Hey,

I always like the D'Addario Nickel strings.
So you havent play your Roscoe bass? Is your Roscoe is using Mahogany body or Spanish cedar body?

Kindred Spirit

Definatly a Mahagony body. I take delivery September 30. Only ten days away! I have played it in the shop when I picked it out. Some would like a bass with a little more aggressive sound- I like more deep and clear. I'm sure the more I play it the more pleased I will be. Stay in touch.
